Dysons work well and last for years if you follow the instructions, clean the filters as specified, and don't run the machines with the dust bin full - empty it as soon as the max level is reached.
Most problems with Dysons are wet-wear induced.
Get the right model for your needs, RTFM, and you'll be fine.
Treat it as most people treat machines these days and you'll be in the market for a replacement every few years.
No, I don't work for Dyson, and can't stand the man, but appreciate that his company's products are mostly excellent.

We have a dog and our 3 year old Dyson V8 is brilliant. Clean the filters and don't bash it about and I see no reason why it'd fail.

In addition we now have a Vax platinum carpet cleaner which we use every couple of months and I can't say enough good things about that either.

I recently replaced an upright Miele S7 with a canister Miele C3 because we are over five levels and the canister is easier to move about and better at cleaning the stairs. The upright was still going strong after being abused through a few major renovations. The canister is much quieter, much more manoeuvrable and with a turbo brush head it seems to clean equally well as the upright did. The double swivel joint on the hard floor head is extremely satisfying and it's low profile means it can reach the wood floor underneath the sofa.

Cordless Dyson V8 for daily use. Really impressed, cordless is an absolute game changer.

Henry for building work and car clean outs.Dyson doesn't like brick or plaster dust!
