Email in from the company I use to manage energy comparison...

You may have seen in the media that Avro Energy have ceased trading. We understand that this announcement could be a cause of concern, but there is no need to worry.

Your supply will continue as normal and Ofgem (the energy regulator) will shortly announce which supplier they have appointed to take over the accounts of Avro Energy customers. Ofgem have also confirmed that any outstanding credit balances are protected and will be carried across to your appointed supplier.

The only thing you need to do now is take a meter reading as soon as possible and keep a note of this and then wait until the new supplier gets in touch. They will explain how they will take on your account, transfer your Direct Debit, confirm any credit balance and confirm the details of your new tariff.
That's useful to know as Im with Avro and was about to try and submit my meter readings. I've kept a copy for when the new supplier needs them.

I'm mid switch to Avro from Green - first DD taken by Avro, in credit with Green. I think this could be interesting to unpick...

Not sure you can get any worse a position to be in than that...

Frankly it was a ridiculous system. They were all pop-up resellers in a price cutting spiral, competition gone wrong.

Been with Avro a few years now. Good rates, easy to use website.
I’m quite a bit in credit and was on a fixed rate until February so whatever new rate I get will be significantly more expensive than I’ve been paying.
Arse.

Are there any other suppliers up against the wall? I'm with Outfox... Not much in credit, about £60. Down from 400 last year when I managed to get them to change the DD.

All of them. Apart from the big 6 could go bust at any time now.

I would if I was you. Mine went out yesterday.

I know the credit is protected but how is it actually calculated? I didn't get around to submitting meter readings for last two months so they must have estimated it. Now when whoever takes over the customers, do they check credit based on new meter readings or is it lost? Thanks.

I’m really not happy with Avro at all. I tried to switch to another provider recently whilst the fixed rate deals were still reasonable.

Avro made it impossible to leave, rejecting all attempts at a transfer. They never explained why, it was always necessary to try to get hold of them. In a nutshell, they seemed unwilling or unable to take any outstanding amount owed via DD, so we constantly cleared balances to zero on a number of occasions. The new provider was then instructed to reapply by which time inevitably there was a few more quid owing so the transfer was rejected again. The email thread trying to sort this all out is extensive and the situation was, up to today, still ongoing. It really makes me wonder whether their actions were entirely intentional.

Tempted to cancel my direct debit.
Could there be any future complications if I cancel it, or is it best to leave it as it is?

Actioned a change to a new supplier from green last week.

Green mobile app is still working but it’s very very slow.

Have taken meter readings via iPhone camera and will try and upload the meter readings.

Just feel sorry for the employees.

Just downloaded my Ovo bills to be sure...

Does this mean the bloody referral code rubbish will finally stop? That got very annoying, to the point you could not ask a simple question on a public forum through fear of having a demand to use x or y's code shoved down your throat. Ironically this then made me steer clear of said companies (Bulb did this IIRC)

A stupid mess they have got themselves into. I am with BG for my Gas now and tbh for all their faults and shyster moves my bill is never too high (rarely have the heating on) and they just get on with it. I went out of contract last month and hastily renewed on another fixed tariff for an estimated £15 more a year... Lucky swerve for now. My Ovo deal is valid until Jan 2023 which is nice, although I have a fair bit of credit with them...

Just a thought but if you were on a good rate and your supplier goes under you will be transferred to a much more expensive rate.
What’s to stop you over reading for your final reading? Therefore keeping your better rate.

Depends when your last meter reading was. If it was ten days ago like mine, there’s not a lot you can fiddle!

Have just cancelled my Direct Debit as when this happened with Breeze they kept collecting it.
I’m with them too so thanks for this - just cancelled mine too. fk ‘em

1) how the fk can we all have contracts and they mean fk all - they just tear it up and shut down 2) how the fk can they just literally shut everything off so now we have no access to our statements 3) s 4) they’re all s 5) why should any of us have to trust these fking companies (insurance, water, etc too) with direct debits

I think I was approx £100 in credit but don’t know for sure. Also, I’m probably going to over-read my meters on transfer to the new company cos fk them too (or do I want to underread? st help me not fk it up, which way round do I want it?!)

st my last direct debit to them was 2 days ago
