Apologies, haven't been in the pawn thread for ages. Will have a shufti.
Weirdly, I got sent the link to the listing by a colleague in Paris! biggrin

No problem, it's a fascinating read in itself. She's clearly a very determined lady, and achieved remarkable things despite the Planners - but it took an awfully long time.

Not sure this is a total nightmare as such, there's quite a lot to like with the overall place/location.

It does look a bit like someone stripped a local monastery for fittings, then you get to the bathrooms!
And the kitchen was a "I want something different from the rest of the house".
Odd but glorious.

Sardines have more room!

Private garden too...

Google Maps shows that to get to your garage, you have to drive into the Sainsburys car park. So nice and visible to everyone!

Barret Homes of course...
4 Bedrooms decent. However Student digs in Birmingham City centre looks bigger !

But just looked on Google Maps. Its next to a church! And opposite the backside of a multi storey!

Not a fan of this other one really either, I just noticed who the former neighbour was! How cringe to have pics of a race car in the windows! But then I never really had high opinion of him having heard the stories the media "forgot to recall" about his "diva/unpleasant" behaviour to those he deemed lesser! rolleyes

Don’t think the church gets much use with the Islam centre and Casino behind it.

But yeah obviously been there for years while they just build around it.

Up for sale for more than a year now. Stuck in the corner of a farm field which was convenient for the guys business but now he’s selling up so the house is a stand alone.
Grand design house ?

No, I don't think so. Some superficial resemblance to the airfield one maybe?

bit of a WTF? place this one

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/156431405#/...

looks like it may have been built illegally "the current building has not been constructed according to the approved plans" although that wouldn't be a bad thing if it has to be knocked down hehe
We've had that before - not a complaint, it was a while ago and it's nice to see old friends.
Of all the rotters on this thread, I'd genuinely be embarrassed to live there.
I think it's brilliant, in a "so bad it's almost good way". And 10 of the bedrooms need knocking into 5. Though it should be at the end of a private drive at least half a mile long.
But I would still be embarassed to live there. getmecoat

“Elegant guest bathroom with luxury sanitary wear” eek PH, where spelling matters.

Unfortunately, it would need a lot of work to return the decor to a more understated look which suits my taste.

Wonder if the carpet matches that of the golf clubhouse ?

I’ve just sold my house in East Lothian and I’m always scouring Right Move and that house always pops up when I search oldest listed first. It got planning permission back in 2011 and was subject to a s75 agreement that tied it to the adjacent business (the family park) as the owners accommodation, which is why it was allowed to be built on open countryside (it’s very difficult to build a single house in East Lothian in open countryside unless you can prove an operational requirement), but the condition must have been removed at some point.

Someone asked how it got planning permission…..

East Lothian Council definitely has a weird and wonderful planning commitee.

I'm going to tease you now. There's a beauty that I've been meaning to take a picture of. Unfortunately Streetview isn't up to date on that road but I'll see if I can go past there tomorrow.

P.s It's know locally as Check Point Charlie.

That's the one biggrin. Saved me a trip.

Now that's something special.

I don't know who to feel most sorry for, the architect who presented the client with this as presumably something they were proud of or the client who actually thought this was a great design.

That's a bit like the concrete house near Lewes, but with the added kerb appeal of some windows.

Not off the top of my head, but as I summarised in the other thread in her argument she said, in terms 'There's no bathroom/toilet or kitchen that I can install that can be in any way contemporary with the C15th origins of this house. So I will be going nuts and don't even think of trying to make me install horrible faux victorian stuff'
