Horrific buying process - committed buyer WTF?
Committed Buyer is a new, innovative and pioneering process for us to make money from gullible punters buying and selling property. It significantly reduces the purchasing power of the buyer risk of gazumping or double-selling by taking money from them and not offering it back if they don't proceed offering security to us both parties by gaming the system gaining a commitment from both parties to buy and sell.

We saw a run-down (semi-derelict) farmstead we were interested in, being sold by the 'modern method of auction' and rang the agent to ask if they would consider a reasonable offer in the traditional way (we have capital to buy the place outright, but would need to borrow to refurbish) - we were refused - the place is on the market for the third time in 2 years with a lower guide and yet another version of the 'pay us a non-refundable deposit to secure your offer' wheeze...

Or indeed terraced, going on my example in Windsor.

Oh, I'm aware of the historical use of the word. I just haven't seen it used in a property listing for anything other than a massive detached house in the South of France or similar.

Well, consider me educated. How bizarre.
Maybe it was also common in England in the past, I remember living in a Victorian terraced house in Windsor and there was a "Something Villas" inscribed stone on the house in the middle of the terrace. Perhaps the usage fell out of favour in England in the 20th Century but persisted in Scotland.

EDIT: correction, wasn't a stone but a metal plate:

Actually we have this on our place, semi-detached, prob 1920s. Sandstone gate post and the worn inscription "Maelor Villas". Hard to see now unless the light just shines across it right. Will have to do a rubbing one day to preserve it before it wears away completely.

Hang on, to get to the kitchen, which is miles away from the rest of the house, you enter through the front porch. And there's a staircase in it, and it seems to have been extended backwards into one side of the garage - to the extent that the solider course over the garage door lintel is still visible!!!

And it's £800k!

I need to have a sit down to ponder this reality.

Yes, you go back into the porch, through 3 doors to get to the dining area. I think they've missed a door and stairs in the plan.

Unless I'm mistaken the 'dining area' looks like little more than a lean-to with a plastic corrugated roof.

I'm also intrigued about the indoor pool and sauna accessed via French doors from the master bedroom, but they chose to omit that area from the photos for some reason.

Garage sounds excellent.

A detached four garage block, with automatic doors allows parking from both the drive and street. The garage is equipped with a four post lift, engine hoist and wheel changing and balancing facilities.

If all car repairs are done at home I would guess all those extensions, wiring and plumbing were done by the owner. Building Regs nightmare.

Someone likes knotty pine !!. Apart from it lining nearly every room , also the furniture !. No wonder an industrial sized fire extinguisher in one pic.

You’re probably only allowed to live there if you are currently awaiting your case coming up for something you typed on an EncroChat hehe
