Its blimmin hard trying to push my Honda Izzy up and down it

I bough a flymo with a box, but it doesnt seem to hover very well and turned into a right faff.

I've used a strimmer, but it tends to wreck the grass and leave a bald mess.

What to do?

Flymos don't hover with a grassbox on. I'd take the box off and mow from above.

You could use shears to get the worst off first.

As above - try taking the box off the flymo and mow from the top down. Although, given it looks quite small - strimming by standing on the slope and working along should be possible with a bit of care.

turn the soil over with a tiller/rotavator and make a nice flower bed, it would look lovely.
Failing that more practise with a string trimmer.

I’d buy a really cheap and hence light fly mow and use that. In this case, probably the smaller the better as it will be less weight to move around.

I used to have a really steep bank in the garden. I bought the lightest weight mower going which made it east down run up and down the bank. Think it was a cheap Bosch one.

Thanks chaps.

I did wonder how a hover mower was able to blow down for hovering and blow grass cuttings up into a box at the same time.

Here is the offender.

I would do that with a cordless hedgetrimmer, assuming the reality is the same as the impression I get from the picture.

If it had to be cut I'd strim it, the little Stihl electric ones are really not that bad it just sounds like you need to refine your technique a bit!

Personally though unless it was a safety/visibility issue I'd just let it grow. Long banks with naturally colonising wildflowers etc look great and only need a rough strim then once or twice a year

Er yes, I am crap with the strimmer. Its a girt big petrol monster too.

It does need to be kept under control on the corner so we can see down the lane.

That's crying out to be planted with wild flowers, it would look beautiful, attract bees etc.

Just do the corner then. Leave the rest but pull the weeds a couple of times a year.

I'd be in favour of planting it with something, either flowers or bushes.
But I think our electric rotary wheeled mower would cope fine if you want to mow it.

I have more bank than that, tried a lightweight electric mower with box removed but went back to an electric strimmer, far easier.

I am turning half of it into a flower bed though.

Strimmer! Perhaps an excuse for a lighter electric one?
