Does anyone have any experience, or know the easiest way, of buying a piece of furniture (expensive Italian made sideboard) at auction (in Texas) and then shipping it to myself in the UK?

I have bought furniture from china.

Shipping is the killer. You can get a price to a U.K. port for nothing but then you get significant handling fees in the U.K. you can’t do anything about.

You need a quote for DDP - delivered ( to your door ) Duty Paid.

Vat is not duty but some ddp includes vat some not. I always ask for ddp including the vat.

At that point you know your landed cost is the goods plus ddp. The only thing that makes is viable is volume.

Thanks, that's very helpful.

This isn't a business thing, I'm just looking at potentially buying a rare piece of furniture at an auction in the US. The current price is mid-three figures whereas the price of the item new is mid-four figures...
