If the house is mainly carpet then a Sebo Felix will suffice. I bought one not so long ago from someone on eBay after doing a bit of research online however our place is mostly hard floor and it's pretty woeful on them to be honest. Have tried all the different heads and raising/lowering the powerhead with it on or off but it just doesn't pick most things up properly.

On carpets it will be perfect though.
Do you have the Premium Parquet head for the Felix? If so, have you taken out the front brush? If not, do that and you will have a great hard floor cleaner.

The Felix is the best all round vacuum I reckon, when taking into account performance, price, durability, ease of use and ease of repair ability. It should last 20+ years with performance as it was at day one. Easy to change parts, easily removable brush roll to remove hair. It’s not perfect, the hose is too short and you have to buy a separate long wand, plus it can be quite tip prone, but all in all, they are incredibly effective and just keep going. Sebo’s are like the classic 1980’s Mercedes cars - well designed, understated and mega durable.

Sharks (and bagless vacs, including Dyson’s) work great for a few months, but as the filters clog with dust, even if washed, the dust embeds and kills the suction. Also, the anti hair wrap rollers looks to work well, but a lot of hair will migrate to the side bearings and eventually kill the brush roll. This is all worse with Shark’s as the single cyclone leaves the filter dirty very quickly and they don’t allow easy repair or replacement of the brush roll. The suction and performance drops off over time, even though they are never meant to lose suction. Most people don’t realise that there is ongoing cost with bagless machines; even the washable filters should be replaced every year. Plus, they are unhygienic and fragile. Overall, form over function.

If you have carpet, you’ll need a vacuum with a motorised brush bar to properly clean it. Suction only machines just can’t get deep. They don’t have the agitation to pull the embedded dirt. Even turbo brushes aren’t strong enough.
