I need a shed of some kind for storing garden furniture and the mower. 6x4 or 5x7 is all I need.

Thing is, all sheds seems look pretty much the same. Is it possible to get a shed that looks a bit classier than yer average shed? One with a door at least 6' high would be nice too - why do shed makers only cater for dwarves?

If the shed is only 6x4 why does it need to be big enough to stand up in? Is your lawnmower 6' tall?

I got one of those two-tone (green/beige) metal sheds from Homebase/Argos. £99 I think. Is great for the mower and other garden tools. Not robust enough for bikes and regular access usage, but fine for gardening only.

No, but I am!

I saw one like that - perfect size and very practical, but it just looks out of place in a garden IMHO - too artificial.

I'm 6'3" - I stand at the door and can pretty much reach everything.

The shed looks ok if you let a bush grow over it!

Sounds interesting...

I rather fancied being able to go into the shed, rather than stand outside and wave my arms about. But the bush idea is good - in fact there's an ivy nearby which would enjoy it!

My parents have got a normal shed, but instead of staining it, they painted it in an olive green shade. It looks really good and blends in nicely with the garden. You could also attach some trellis to it and grow a climbing plant over it.

Our shed whilst being made by a major manufacturer was adapted to our custom specification mainly to increase the height of the shed and the door.

So go to your local shed display at your local garden centre and ask! In our case the insurance company asked, but I guess if you ask you should get an answer.

Incidentially there are definitely different qualities of sheds, which more expensive ones having better cladding, better frames etc.

Maybe you could do with something like this, it's tall, doesn't take up much room but it's very roomy inside.

I'm not sure this is the actual site I mentioned but this was the style.

Interesting - like a small chalet-thing. Thanks, I'll ponder that. I also found 'loglap' which looks a bit different too.

As for the Tardis, I fear the inside will be too big to heat...

Decision time looms! Will it be a cheap shed tarted up with cedar shingles on the outside, or a loglap, or the chalet-thing? Phone lines are open etc etc...

Not very impressed by the one that looks like a flat-packed Ikea log cabin!
Why not build your own, some CLS studding frames, clad in T&G, bit of felt on the roof. Then make it to fit a standard new/secondhand house door. I saw an old door from a pub which I was going to grab to do just this with, then I reminded myself I have a first floor flat.getmecoat

I did consider it, but today visited my local 'shed' place and they were very helpful - I can specify any changes I like to make it not yer average shed. So the shed and door will be higher than standard, the door will be designed to take a proper lock (not a hideous padbolt), and I'll have a fancy fascia too bounce

Do you mind letting me know where this place is? I am in East Anglia too and also need a decent shed to store all my gardening stuff to free up the garage for more interesting projects...

Cheers

No problem:

Valley Garden Supplies
Hillside
Wignall Street
Lawford
Manningtree
Essex CO11 2JL

Telephone:01206 392975

They make them on site - just walk in and talk it over. You start with a basic shed from their range then add custom features as required. Nice simple family business - owner is Phil.
