The seals on my folding glass shower screen which goes along side the bath appear to ahve perished and shrunk.

Are there standard size replaceemnts? I've no idea what make the shower screen is.

The seals are rubber sections that go on the bottom of the concetina. Having refitted teh screen following decoration and giving them a good clean the appear too short in the vertical plane. Ie there is a gap between the screen and the surface that is supposed to be sealed.

The Screen is fitted properly - it won't go down any further.

I put the seals in the washing machine to get them good and clean - this may be the problem I fear.

I now know this was probably a stupid thing to do.

Can't you just redrill or elongate the holes for the screws that hold it to the wall so that it will move down a few millimeteres?

I thought about that, but I have the DIY skills of a child. No exaggeration.

The screen is fixed to a vertical metal base which fixes to the wall and rests on the top of the bath. There is no room for play as far as I can see.

Are seals easily available? Is there some sort of standard that fits most shower screen types? I imagine perishing rubbers must be a fairly common problem.

Assuming your screen looks something like this one.

You will need a pencil, a ruler, a pair of scissors and a roll of duct tape.

Take off your shoes and stand in the bath.
Fold out your screen along the edge of the bath.
Now draw a pencil line along the frame 25mm from the bottom. Next take a roll of 50mm wide duct tape and stick a length of tape along the frame, with its upper edge on the pencil line. Fold the duct tape along its length back up to the botton of the frame and squeeze the two sticky surfaces. together. Using a pair of scissors cut your new duct tape seal at the points where the screen is hinged so the tape will fold with the door.

Duct tape comes in various colours on 50m rolls. Your bath screen will probably be less than a metre wide. So you will have plenty of chance to practise. It may not be pretty, but it will stop water pissing all over the floor until you come up with a better idea

Finally take a 120mm length of duct tape. Using a maker pen, carefully copy this image onto it.

Now stick it on your forehead.

Good luck

Sparky - the thing is, I'll probably try and do that later on today. Including the writing. Oh and yes, that is like my shower screen!

I much prefer getting a little chap in. My wife seems to think she should have married one. Oh well, back to work next Monday to do what I do very well indeed - which isn't DIY.
