There is something wrong with people who think: Oh it's getting colder. Lets spend more time stood still outside. wink

I prefer the pheasant walking around my garden eating the seed.

Ps 2 guns. One is a Winchester, the other is a beretta.
I don't shoot that often as I normally beat and pick up as I prefer working the dogs instead.
Most of my shooting is off season vermin control,(foxes, crows etc) occasional duck shooting and also some roe deer on the shoot.
Tbh I just love being outdoors for a day and have been brought up fishing and shooting since I was a toddler.

I love that arguement that don't see the 12 months of conservation and work on the land, planting trees, shrubs, setting up feeders, keeping down predator numbers, which encourages songbirds and other wildlife.
Yes we shoot birds, but ours is a small syndicate where we buy in poults but also raise birds from scratch, on s good season we shoot 40% of total birds(out of 1500).
And yes it is fun but everything on our shoot is ate. If its badly shot and not fit for us then it will be fed to the dogs.

Dont I love dogs!
My two are already boincing( although in bed now) as they seen us getting gear ready for tomorrow. In the morning they will be bouncing off the kennel walls.
They just seem to know when it's a shoot day and totally love it.
You need to see a gun dog doing its job to see joy!

There is something wrong with people who find it "fun" to kill an animal. This forum is about loving animals not kiling them.

Being a petrolhead and believing that shooting animals for entertainment is wrong aren't mutually exclusive.

It's very wrong to breed animals just so you can have 'fun' shooting them. It's not a controlled kill and the industry doesn't like people talking about the numbers of birds which are injured, not killed, which then die horrible and prolonged deaths.

Although its not something I have any real interest in doing myself, I don't see any problem with people doing it as long as a few basic things are happening:

  • The animals are looked after properly before they are hunted
  • When killed they are taken out in a way that isn't likely to lead to suffering
  • Anything killed is eaten
If all of the above applies, then anyone having fun doing it is really neither here or there. I just think its weird that anyone enjoys it in the first place... but then they probably think I'm weird for spending an afternoon hitting a little white ball around 18 holes smile

Yes you are right Shoebag it is wrong to find it fun to kill an animal, but hunting is different.

Hunting works other animals the way they are meant to, so long as what is killed is eaten its acceptable as the chain continues.

It's those that just kill animals that are wrong.

Why is hunting different? I suspect people that hunt enjoy doing it, if they didnt enjoy killing the animals then they would use clay pidgeons surely.

Because they kill for food, rather than just killing for the fun of it
