A lot of similarities with Dubai’s street cats there ... I’ve been thinking of a similar photography project for a while, you may have just spurred me on!

Hey claire, long time...

Last 3 posters : dubai cat club!

The lady who fostered him has just left. She said he’s always been vocal but not to the extent i describe. I have audio and video clips which she is sending to an animal behaviourist. She thinks maybe because he is still young (thinks around a year or so) he just hasn’t lived anywhere long enough to properly settle. She did say he seemed very comfortable around me, that he is an odd but cool cat and i seem like the right kind of human for him (cheers luv!).

We did talk about the option of another cat to keep him company. Apparently male cats change for the better with a young kitten. However I’m going to give him a bit longer to settle in. She reckons once he properly bonds with me and i keep the lead training up i’ll be able to go camping with him etc. and a mix of being settled in the home and active with me should stop the night time antics. I also think knowing my (admittedly chaotic) routine will help him settle.

One thing to note, its ridiculous how many stray pure breeds there are here. She says 90%+ of the cats they rehome are pure bred fancy cats (chartreux, siamese, scottish fold, angora etc.). I can only summise most of them are unwanted gifts frown
Arabian Mau/Dubai street cat here. Scooped up out of the gutter when she was only a couple of weeks old and now a pampered princess almost 10 years later (no way we’d buy a pure breed whilst there are so many others in need of a home). As Claire comments Arabian Maus are quite noisy however ours truly discovered her voice when we moved house when she was still fairly young. The blood curdelling scream she created when she was initially let out of the cat carrier really shocked us ... and the cat quickly discovered that the more noise she made the more attention she got, it became a vicious circle and she’s now more vocal than ever. Changes in routine/circumstance definitely result in more “talking”.

You have my sympathy for the 3am wake up call, we went through the same for months and maybe even years. We keep her out of the bedroom at night (we have to lock the door as she very quickly learned she could open it by jumping up and hanging off the handle) but she would sit outside the door howling and howling. We’d ignore this so she’d progress to jumping onto the door handle and it became so frantic that we’d worry she would hurt herself and hence we’d open the door ... that viscous circle again. I’d like to say she has grown out of it (and hope yours will) but we had a 2am wake up call just this morning (we get maybe one per month now, more if we have changed routine for some reason).

I’d be interested to hear how your camping plans develop ... there is absolutely no way I’d want to spend a night in a tent with our monster and I’d also worry about taking her into the desert due to the risk of her getting spooked, running off to hide somewhere and getting lost ... good luck.
We've still got our two rescue mogs we had from Feline Friends. Ten years nearly.

They much prefer the UK as they can go out and whatnot.

Phil - deffo get another. Will make your life much easier.

Came home to find my cat Sadie guarding my moto! She's so lightfooted, the disc lock alarm didn't trigger. That would have given her a fright.

Priya might stop off during her yearly trip to see the folks but It's unlikely I will.

I’m on Annual Leave at the moment and have found it so hard to spend a night away from home because I miss the cats! I’ve slept (watched the Perseids) in the Catio and have had some days out, I used to come home with sweets, treats and gifts for the kids...

In the last couple of days the cats have had a new scratch tree/bed, a large scratch cardboard curve, a feather dream catcher, some cat nip mice and some edible treats. My kids in the meantime need back to school shoes.

In the meantime this has amused me

Garage cat:

Name shortlist is coming on, currently favouring Ferris.

I’m away for 2 weeks with work so blue balls has gone back to his foster mum. Still waiting on the behaviourist to call me back but the nightime wakeups are becoming less often thankfully. Prob back to square one when i get back.....

Jerry: lots to do before he will be ready to camp but signs are there. Taken to the lead easily which is positive and he usually comes to me when called, but thats only the start, he spooks easily on our nighttime walks and hides in a bushes. Theres a good website with info. (adventurecats) but dont expect we’ll be doing much this winter, softly softly etc.

Claire: have you left dubai? Not many of the old gang about it has to be said.

James: Speaking of that, hope you’re well mate! I’m just about done with the sandpit although i have been saying that since i arrived! hehe

hehe That's on our shortlist too!

(All from my favourite movies)
Ferris.
Fredo.
Brody.

I still think Mr Roper is a cool name for a cat but the missus makes a face like she's curling out a turd every time I mention it.

Cats can have many names, one of ours (sadly departed) had an official name of Maxwell, he was variously called 'Mr Pink Nose', 'that fat bd', 'Mogswilliam the McPussy', 'Mogswell', 'Maxwilliam the Munchnificent' and 'Your cat'.

Ferris is a great name smile I have Captain and Pinot but they answer to a whole host of other names smile

I am in Abu Dhabi permanently as of this Saturday as I work within The VVVVVVVVVVVVVVIP Family now.

Will stay in either Marina Heights or Mag 218 when I come back for a weekend to drop the Porsche off for it's service or I just need some normality biggrin

I can't say it enough but get another kitteh to go with yours, you won't regret it for a moment.

I've just found this on an old hard drive. It's also on the Shakespeare's quotes written by a click-bait author.

Hamlet's Cat's Soliloquy
To go outside, and there perchance to stay
Or to remain within: that is the question:
Whether 'tis better for a cat to suffer
The cuffs and buffets of inclement weather
That Nature rains on those who roam abroad,
Or take a nap upon a scrap of carpet,
And so by dozing melt the solid hours
That clog the clock's bright gears with sullen time
And stall the dinner bell. To sit, to stare
Outdoors, and by a stare to seem to state
A wish to venture forth without delay,
Then when the portal's opened up, to stand
As if transfixed by doubt. To prowl; to sleep;
To choose not knowing when we may once more
Our readmittance gain: aye, there's the hairball;
For if a paw were shaped to turn a knob,
Or work a lock or slip a window-catch,
And going out and coming in were made
As simple as the breaking of a bowl,
What cat would bear the household's petty plagues,
The cook's well-practised kicks, the butler's broom,
The infant's careless pokes, the tickled ears,
The trampled tail, and all the daily shocks
That fur is heir to, when, of his own free will,
He might his exodus or entrance make
With a mere mitten? Who would spaniels fear,
Or strays trespassing from a neighbour's yard,
But that the dread of our unheeded cries
And scratches at a barricaded door
No claw can open up, dispels our nerve
And makes us rather bear our humans' faults
Than run away to unguessed miseries?
Thus caution doth make house cats of us all;
And thus the bristling hair of resolution
Is softened up with the pale brush of thought,
And since our choices hinge on weighty things,
We pause upon the threshold of decision.

That tickled me.

We have Pickle who is also known as Pics, Picnics, Princess Pickle and (because she is a bit big-boned, and this is from my wife) Porkerbelle, Chunkerbelle, Fatty Fatpants, Hippomogamous etc.

And Arnie who is also known as Arn and (because he's ginger) Gingeroon, Roon, Roonie, Biscuit, etc.

Our George, otherwise known as Geordie, Jimbo, Doorway Cat (always in your way when you're trying to go through a door), is 9 today.

Still likes sleeping

Still likes 'living on the edge'

Still dislikes snow

And still most definitely dislikes being woken up by someone taking his photo. biggrin

All these photos of Jake look pretty normal and unremarkable...until you realize that they are taken in our neighbors house when he’s let himself in and made himself comfortable hehe
