Bought my squad a ball pond. They love it. Even more so when it’s been invaded by Daddy Long Legs. Though the girls queue nicely for their turn the boys are a bit mean.

Same here, might have to get me one of those.

Still haven’t named my cat as mr roper stole ferris tongue out

I have agreed to foster another russian blue on a temp to perm basis. He is about a year old and was finally caught after many attempts over several months (i am told the sanctuary caught 140 strays last month alone. Domestic mogs are sterilized and released, breeds attempted to rehome).

He’s very very scared and wary of everything. A whole summer spent on the streets (40degC+) and now holed up in my spare room.

Took my own cat out for a long walk to let the new boy settle, after which he fell asleep on top of me which is very rare. Only then he realised there was another cat in the house and was not at all impressed. I think he only stopped meowing for a few minutes all night. Absolutely knackered today frown

Going to be a loooooong week.

On the plus side i have been introduced the eastern european milf cat mafia who seem to be grooming me biggrin

Been a few months since we had to say goodbye to Hamish but it’s time to get another pal for Max.

Pick him up next week...

Update on the rescue:

Zero. Zip. Nada

I have an open plan flat with basement. During the day my cat gets the basement and new cat gets upstairs, with the door between wedged open a couple of inches. New cat has the carrier and litter tray in the bathroom.

I have only seen him out of the carrier once, he went mental, didnt know where to run and ended up pissing all over out of fright before bolting back in the carrier. This was tuesday, he hasn’t come out the bathroom since even with the door wide open and me at work. He is eating/littering as normal though...

My cat is taking it well. He knows there is another cat in the bathroom (at night i wedge that door and let mine have the run of the house) and seems curious to meet it. We are getting on better than we ever had, several good walks on the lead this week and he has stopped a lot of his theatrics.

So far, seems like another cat is welcome in the house but mr scaredy may not be it.

Any tips? I am going to try introducing them tonight but worried about the outcome. My cat is very forward/curious but non aggressive, the new one is potentially the exact opposite.

Put cat in a new room with food, water and litter and shut the door. Let the cat come out on it's own and scope out the room.
You join it and sit with it for a couple hours and let it realise you are there, you are not a threat and let it come see you. Get some treats and try to coax it out.

Do this for a couple days, until the cat seems more comfortable and calm. Then shut your other cat away and open the door to the room where you've been keeping the rescue cat and let it out to explore a bit without the other cat. Gradually build up the new cats confidence to explore the place. Then introduce the 2 cats.

What you have been doing so far doesn't sound good for either cat. Sorry

It's better to supervise the introductions. Also you can introduce over to food. Make sure both are hungry so haven't been grazing overnight or all afternoon.

initally he was in the bathroom which is about 3m x 3m and the one of only 2 doors in the house, only place i could put him. food, water, bed etc. are in there.

Let the cat come out on it's own and scope out the room.

yep did this. when i went in he ran back to the carrier. treats etc. have no effect. i have only seen him out of the carrier once, in my bedroom, with results as above.

[b] the only other lockable [my cat can open doors] is the one to the basement. this is about 600sqft, upstairs roughly double. first day new cat had upstairs, old cat down, door between closed and locked, each with own food/water/litter. i do this every day but yesterday [4th day] left a gap between the door [wedged securely] so they could see/sniff each other. i read this was a good thing.

at times my cat wants out the basement and so i have shut the new one in the bathroom to let him roam. he has a set of lungs tom jones would be proud of when he wants something.

Then introduce the 2 cats.

[b] expanded above, didn't do this from the off. new cat is ice cold calm, no signs of panic, just sits very still and silent in the carrier. not willing to risk panicking him again or injuring my cat with an intro just yet.

FWIW my cat is not arsed at all. he knows there is a cat in the bathroom and will sit at the door sniffing. i walk him most nights in a park with other cats around which he usually ignores. he was fostered for 4mths with other cats and i am told he will be ok with a new cat in hours, although he probably sees my house as his territory now. Poor old "Fat Bongo" has been hit by a car frown He has a broken pelvis and now needs 6 weeks cage rest. To say that he is not very happy would be an understatement. He is used to roaming the field and woods that surround our house.

Shirt all my cats have been like that. Including the kitten whose parents live in the house too. She wouldn’t leave my bedroom from under my bed for almost the first twelve months. Now she loves being out and exploring with the others. Just patience and lots of love.

Mix a few items around like bedding etc to introduce smells to each other. If newbie is confident with litter tray maybe move closer to the door then just outside gradually to encourage confidence in exploring.

Good luck. And pictures!

Awww poor Fat Bongo - The Bengal? Hope he stays safe and makes a good recovery. Lots of love.

Yes he is one of our two Bengals. His actual name is Vertigo, he is 13 years old and one of the soppiest friendliest cats we have ever had.

Love a Bengal...

The guttering has fallen off the back of my house today and smashed my satellite dish. Retreated to my room to watch some evening TV. Much to Lebowski’s disgust.
