Broke 5 ribs, fractured skull, broken left arm, multiple cuts and bruises.

It was an absolute whale of a time.

Got to say, having cancer when I was 30 was a biggie. I'll spare you the story of the event itself, but it changed my perspective twice.

For about a year afterwards, I lived very much in the moment. Hurrah, I've (apparently) survived, I'm going to seize the day etc. I spent some time on the US West Coast, which was a great thing to do, and a great way to clear my head. I ate, drank and made merry. And I did that a lot.

And then after a while, I still didn't die. I started to realise that I'd put on a lot of weight, and my lifestyle was rubbish. I'm still trying to lose it now, and not very successfully (I'm about 7 years on from that now). At least I'm not putting more on.

I realised that all the keeping busy, living for today etc was actually a reaction to being afraid of the cancer coming back. And then I realised that I couldn't live the rest of my life not planning a future because I was scared. The enemy was still cancer- every day, a little bit of me is still scared stless that it's going to come back- but I now realise that I've got to plan for the longer run and the enemy is more likely to be my being fat than cancer these days. (I'm not enormous now- I'm 100kg and 6 feet 1- but I'm still a considerable podge and I still have more weight to lose.)

And as for long term planning? Well, I started to think about what I really wanted in life. I have a lot to do in balancing work and life but I'm no longer the complete workaholic I was. I earn a little less, I'm a little happier and I share my life with a wife and daughter these days. smile Might be boring to many, but it's a little bit of heaven to me to have people to come home to.

Slipped over and went down backwards hitting my head on a wood floor, end result was 3 fractures on the skull and 3 bleeds on the brain and nearly 3 years now of some serious ups and downs that have been/still are very trying at times.

At the time, and for a fair while after I had no idea how lucky I had been to come out of the fall and injuries with no real long term effects, I didn't start to appreciate this until I started seeing similar injuries on tv programs like 24 Hours in A&E.

Had some short term memory loss and at times battled a few demons but think this has been a result of other issues. Much better at controlling the demons and dark days now, but still slip up now and then and have no control when it comes, luckily it goes as quick as it arrives.

As above, it has made me realize how lucky I am in other ways.

Broken ankle at 21..

It took nine months to walk again and at least three years to get back to normality.

Allergic to my mother's blood. Two blood transfusions, being christened at three days old with doctors and nurses as my godparents and being given the last rights without my father present as they didn't think I'd make it.

Couple of problems...I did, which made my dad hate them all for the st they put his family through in his absence and perhaps made me not have the utmost respect for people who like to explain that things aren't going to work out. By proxy of dad obviously!

Either that or the time Mum rolled the car (in the '70s) into a ditch with me, age 18 months in the back.

Even now in my 40s, I honestly don't feel like I'll ever die. This might not be healthy, but it works for me.

I was born with a deformed spine. If it hadn't been noticed as soon as it was then I'd have been a hunchback, as it was I spent 18 months as a toddler in neck to knee plaster.

I've never been badly injured, I think the worst I've had (and only because it didn't heal well- 26 weeks in cast. frown ) was a Scaphoid fracture on my dominant wrist that I picked up in a motorcycle accident.

I know other people are going to have a go at you about this but made me genuinly LOL!

I had been in the Army for 6 years when I was recovering from a minor injury and got a sudden shock of pain in one hip. When investigating this, and the development of pain ij mu other hip it was discovered that I have a lot of damage to the cartilage in my hips. One operation has made this worse and I have now been medically discharged from a career I thought I was going to be in forever, that I was good at and enjoyed going to work (almost) ever morning. I struggle with depression and adjustment issues and am in pain every day with walking and holding a position both causing me problems.

I am thirty years old looking at the possibility of a double hip replacement

Burst appendix aged 8 & then a form of Pancreatitus until mid teens.

Lots of broken bones & some major surgery in my 20s & 30s.

Nothing life changing until Guillain-Barré Syndrome two years ago.

Still one of the lucky ones through neuro rehab though.

Hopefully my lot now.

Edit: and that effing whitlow last year.

Nothing until I was 63 when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and then, shortly afterwards, with major heart problems. That was four years ago. Thanks to superb care and treatment from the NHS I am able to look forward to better times ahead though for a while life looked rather ste.

Worst I've had is fractured heel and ankle in a climbing fall. Heel bone in many pieces (I counted at least 6 on the CT scan) but it all healed up almost as good as new. My ankle is a bit "clicky" now but otherwise no problems.
Still yet to spend a night in hospital (touch wood).

I had necrotising fasciitis in my left arm and sepsis last july. Spent a couple of days in intensive care with 2 surgeries to remove the infected tissue followed by 2 days in recovery and then a further 2 weeks on an orthapedic ward with a further 7 night stay a few weeks later for skin grafts. Lucky not to lose my arm or my life. The staff at Frimley park hospital are amazing!

At 21 I nearly fall 50ft out of a roof in a factory once but my 18 year old Apprentice saved my life.
Apart from that, been involved in a multi car pile up on the M25 and on another occasion wrote my TVR off. frown

January 2015 aged 33 I had my first visit to hospital courtesy of a fall off my bike on some ice.

I just slid out to the side and landed on my right leg, quite heavily it seems as following an X Ray it was identified that I had fractured the neck of my femur.

A few hours later I was on the table having 3 cannulated screws inserted through the outside of my femur to hold the neck together.

I had 3 months off my feet and then had to re learn how to walk.

My son was also 13 days old at the time so I wasn't in the good books, it's not much compared to some but it was probably my darkest days going through that.
