Replacement conservatory roof quotes
Discussion
I know this topic has probably been discussed before but couldn't find anything recent...
We have a fairly large 10 year old 'lean-to' conservatory (9600mm wide, 3300mm projection). NW England if that makes a difference.
There's plenty of ventilation for the summer, and two 6' double skinned radiators keep the chills at bay during the winter so we are able to use it pretty much all year round as it is.
However, there are two fairly significant compromises that we wish to address. When it's raining, the noise is quite bad - soft rain is actually quite soothing but when it's raining more heavily it's too loud to hold a conversation. Similarly, bright direct sunlight (it's south facing) produces significant glare and sunglasses indoors is never a good look. We have a dining area in there that we'd like to get more use out of, so have decided that a solid roof with a selection of smaller roof lights is perhaps the way forward. Building regs 'should' be ok as this conservatory went up at the same time as a 2 room side extension and I think the footings were all done to a similar spec.
We've had a couple of quotes done recently:
Ultraframe livinroof with 2x central full length glass panels, plastered internal finish and 16 downlights.
or
Timber framed Warmlite roof with tapco tile finish and 2x Velux style skylights, plastered internal finish and 16 downlights.
Both come with new gutters and downspouts, remove current roof etc.
Prices - I'd laugh if it wasn't so depressing. Ultraframe option is £15700, Warmlite is £16200.
Anyone had similar work done? The quotes seem a bit steep, but I have nothing to measure the quotes against...

The lights will be dimmable and are going in a pelmet around the edge of the room so hopefully won't be too overbearing.
Same firm are quoting for 11 windows and the roofline. Windows came in at £6k which is pretty much what we expected as there are some cosmetic upgrades and internal sill replacement. We've had flyers pushed through the door saying that Bodgit&Scarper can do the roofline work for £1800 so I expected a proper firm to charge maybe £3-4k, nope - another £6k...

Wow that sounds dear. My relatives are just having one done at £6k but it's not the size of yours struggle to fit much more than a couple of sofas in theirs.
16 downlights sounds a lot as well that's going to be bright!
Assuming that their room is 3m x 4m, they're paying roughly £500 per sq mtr. That's thereabouts where my quote is, perhaps this is reasonable then. 16 downlights sounds a lot as well that's going to be bright!
More examples would be useful. Anybody else?
We've spent a small fortune having the garden landscaped etc. so don't want the inevitable mess and upheaval of a full rebuild from scratch. The floors, walls and windows of the conservatory are all in excellent order so don't want or need the bother, even if the price was close enough to make it tempting.
Our quote was around £5K just for replacement glass roof (to the one that needed work before it fell down) on our 5m x 3m wooden conservatory
Prevarication, discussion for a year or more.........then somehow it escalated & turned into a much larger orangery sun room at around 10x that quote - oops!
(MUCH more usable room though ;-)

This is one competition I can win. My neighbours wanted to replace the glass roof with tiles and 3 veluxes. They have solid brick walls and easy access. Even I could do it. Everest quoted, I kid you not, nearly £60k. My whole extension, which is bigger than their conservatory, cost less than that.
No offence to the OP, as he seems to have a genuine reason for it, but is there a fashion/fad thing going on at the moment, re-roofing conservatorys with a proper roof?
I see it everywhere in the newspapers, local adverts. Upgrade your glass house to a new roof, or build from scratch, with a full roof. Seems almost as de rigour as the phase the whole country went through 20+ years ago, when everybody HAD to have a conservatory added.
Then it was decks....
Before that was 'knocking it through' to turn your little terraced house into a mansion.

Yes.It follows on from the fad that the whole country went through 20+ years ago when everybody HAD to have a conservatory added, as a result of it now finally having sunk in that the bloody things cause insufferable solar gain in summer, are freezing cold in winter, and are noisy when it rains.

Your bang on,been fitting these for 20 odd years we used to do around 15/20 per year now I can't remember last time we did one, everyone now has a solid roof of some form with a minimal glazed areaIt follows on from the fad that the whole country went through 20+ years ago when everybody HAD to have a conservatory added, as a result of it now finally having sunk in that the bloody things cause insufferable solar gain in summer, are freezing cold in winter, and are noisy when it rains.

Fibreglass flat roof with a glass lantern in middle or tapco and a couple of velux,we do these all the time ,the prices you have been quoted are plain ridiculous!
I would think around 5k supplied and fitted
Fibreglass is for boats... I would think around 5k supplied and fitted
Revisiting this thread. The fad continues it seems - there are a variety of possibilities now for re-roofing conservatories. All the Ultraframe ones look superb though - but with a price to match.
If the OP is about - what did you go for in the end? Any more Ultraframe quotes about from anyone? I think I may start another thread about our conservatory (or maybe I won't - there seems a lot!)

We went with the Ultraframe option, got a little bit knocked off the initial quote and had some additional cornicing put around the outside to hide the gutters (made a difference to the look of the conservatory outside, worth it).
We use the room lots more now, particularly during lockdown - Once the study and breakfast table had been claimed for home schooling, I was working from the dining area in the conservatory, could never have done this with the old roof, it would've been too hot with too much glare.
Wasn't tge cheapest option, but 100% happy with it.
