I'm wanting to sell my music via the major online stores. At face value Ditto Music looks cheapest and, as a dance music producer, I was particularly attracted by the fact that they offer distribution to Beatport, which many others don't. They have a comparison table illustrating that Tune Core and CD Baby are more expensive. Digging further though it becomes clear that CD Baby don't charge annual fees while Ditto Music and Tune Core do, so CD Baby, while a little more expensive on Day 1, actually works out much cheaper in the long term, particularly if you end up with multiple releases up for the long term. Various articles online actually conclude that CD Baby is best for "small fry" musicians like me.

Does anyone here have experience of selling music via the major online stores? Which platform do you use for getting your stuff out there?

Have a look at Matchbox...
They vet your music and distrbute to all major companies I believe.
They take 20% and thats it.
I am just in the process of using them for my first album....
Good luck with whatever you do.

I know of one artist that had a very bad experience of TuneCore: Their album was mis-priced and they were extremely slow to correct this (only after a battering on social media!). Not sure if they refunded the lost revenue or not!

Having just recieved my return from Matchbox, who I thought were being fair ????
They have changed from what we thought the position was.
Matchbox now want us to pay them £2200 to handle our release?
20% was all that we thought we would be giving them from all our takings from the album but call us niev is where we are ending up....

So, lessons learnt that all is not what we thought it would be I'm afraid to say.
Seems now that we will not perhaps use Matchbox.......
We just don't know what to do now.....

Have you had a look at Distrokid, they appear to be getting some reasonable reviews but having said that I know a few guys using Tunecore who are happy with the service.

Also know another using CD Baby so they have a hard copy option

Tunecore aren't bad. They're the only one we used, but got us on all the outlets we wanted. They did title it wrong at first though.
