Sad times, we have had to say goodbye to Oscar our chocolate labrador - first posted on here at 8 weeks old on Vol 1 pg 23 on 4 October 2009.
Didn't quite make his 9th birthday, cancer took him far too soon. He had a splenectomy in early June and was diagnosed with an aggressive form and he lasted about 2 months.
What a great dog he was though, a perfect companion to my children growing up and he will leave a big hole in our lives.
After the sadness of losing Oscar in early August, we lasted about a month before we started thinking that we needed another Lab in the house. I contacted the breeder that we got Oscar from to see if she had any pups available this year as it would have been nice to get a chocolate Lab pup from the same breeder, but with no reply after several messages we went so see couple of litters from different breeders.
We found a lovey honey coloured Lab from working parents (the Dad was fox red and the Mum was yellow) and we paid a deposit to secure one of the boys. So, here is Teddy:
However, after we had already paid the deposit for Teddy, the breeder from whom we got Oscar some 9 years ago replied and they had a litter of pups becoming available. The strange thing was that Oscar was born on 10th August 2009 and this latest litter of pups was born 10th August 2018.
So, whist we never really meant to get two pups at the same time, this felt too much of a coincidence and after a bit of research and talking to the breeders about having two pups at the same time, we agreed to take a chocolate Lab too! So, here is Harley:
We've had Teddy for 2 weeks now but Harley for less than a week - for anyone wondering it is a lot more that twice the work to look after two! But they get along pretty well, a few play fights each day but nothing you wouldn't expect, we've been told that we need to give them time on their own to train, walk, socialise, etc which will be a challenge but I'm sure will be worth it. Harley (chocoloate Lab) is exactly a week younger than Teddy but already significantly heavier (when each was weighed at 9 weeks, Teddy was just over 5kg and Harley was almost 10kg! Harley's nickname is now Chunk). Here they are together:
Finally, a picture my daughter has made, all three together in one pic. From the kennel club certificates, the family tree shows that Oscar's mother is Harley's great grandmother which is a nice link.

Too cute, of all the puppies in the world, I don't think there are any more adorable than a Labrador puppy. We had two puppies at the same time (granted they were a bit older at 8 months) and were litter brothers. They were difficult at times - a lot of playfighting - but on the other hand they did also keep each other entertained.

We are just drawing to the end of three weeks in america
We have never been away from our dogs for so long before.
Looking at this thread has been a salvation, plus the odd video from the dog hotel.
Some great new dogs on here. Doug looks gorgeous (slightly biased, I admit). and those two lab puppies - well you had to didn’t you?
