Good grief that's a big dog! you could ride him into battle if you had to. What breed is he?

Our new rescue dog, a Collie Cross called Joey. He's our first dog (any advice appreciated!) but he seems full of life, and is getting used to me the more we visit the rescue centre. We're hoping to bring him home next saturday!

Joey looks lovely and very happy smile Good luck and keep us updated.

My main advice would be to take things at his pace - some dogs want cuddles and fuss straight away, others need time to settle in. Take your cues from his behaviour. And try to keep things quiet at first - try to avoid too many visitors/new experiences all at once.

Establish the rules early and stick to them. Dogs like clear rules and certainty. So if you don't want him on the furniture or you don't want him begging on the table, then don't make any exceptions. The dog doesn't mind what the rules are - he just wants to know what they are.

Generally, I think it is important to get the dog to sit before you feed him and don't let him eat until you give him permission (gets him sitting and paying attention to you - which is valuable in other situations) Also always eat before you feed him - this establishes your (and his) position in the pack. It should mean that he won't steal food.

Recently received a new doggie - "Sasha". Very cute, but I may be biased. ;-)

Beautiful dog, looks like a cross between a fox and a wolf. What breed is she?

Czech Wolfdog (CSV). I needed a dog that could come with me on my long MTB rides out, 30km+, in The Lakes. Plenty of good breeds can manage that I guess when mature, but an Italian friend breeds the CSV so we thought we would get one.

Not an easy dog though, very intelligent, especially compared to our labs... Still a pup (born late Jan) but already super quick and agile.

Super-cute face when she runs (bounces): https://youtu.be/iooGxNl75ak
