Indeed. According to the link it's got nothing to do with the dog being hungry. One guy shot himself in the face and his pet ate his head.

dog tastes blood,
instinct takes over,
dog eats owners head.
All while the bowl of dog food on the floor goes untouched (snack for later, maybe?).

Logan did too when a pup but he stopped.

I'm pretty sure *everything* will attempt to scavenge a carcass if otherwise starving, regardless of normal or preferred food source. Saw a really disturbing report of Galapagos giant tortoises who'd become trapped somewhere going cannibal, years and years ago now - it rather stuck in my memory. Can't imagine they've got great capacity to digest it but clearly the instincts say give it a go.
