So just as an update to to help anyone you fins themselves in a similar predicament, I got in contact with the local barkingmad coordinator. She paid a visit to the home last night, we answered lots of questions and Freya is having a practice run on Thursday. Kathryn has been really helpful and put our minds at ease and she click with Freya very quickly. Fingers crossed she does ok on Thursday.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions/comments. smile
So you've had a home visit, answered questions, a trial run then are having someone live in your house while you're on holiday to look after your dog?

Sorry I didn't make it very clear... Freya is staying with Kathryn's family. She has one night on Thursday to make sure she's (the dog) is ok. smile

And I've just notice all the grammar errors in my update! Shocking! I'll blame fat fingers/phone keyboard and hope no one notices.

Top Dog Sitters based in Cumbria (Google them) have sitters over the country, all inspected and council registered where required. You are invited to visit and meet the sitters, see the place and decide for yourself. Dogs have their own bed, toys, food, medication, baths, grooming, walks etc exactly as specified by you. Way better than any kennels/dog prison that you are likely to find anywhere.

Having watched my mum get in this mess on more than one occasion, we only ever used paid services for looking after our dog (Now departed).

We used a local dog sitter and he stayed in their house with their dogs. Obvioulsy he went there for a few hours just to check he got on with everyone.

I was wary the first time we put our Beagle in the kennels for a holiday (he usually comes with us), but he loved it! Didn't want to come home.
