Unlikely to be a rat - more likely a wood mouse or similar. I suspect cute not evil.

We do have quite a few mice round here as we are rural and I have never seen a rat but the neighbour was reporting seeing one recently..

I didn't know mice could do this sort of work, must have taken them a while!
