Method, hold body in one hand and head in the other, twist and pull, twisting at least 180 degrees and only pulling gently. You'll feel the neck dislocate.

Alternatively, hold it down and thwack it's head with a hammer or similar.

The only part worth eating is the breast.

Sometimes a couple days rest a slightly injured wing will be ok and they fly off. Obviously they are at risk whilst grounded. A local wildlife sanctuary may be able to help.

A bruised wing shouldn't mean death as its only option if you do want to intervene. It just depends how injured.

Do you have a local animal rescue place? (I don't mean the RSPCA as I think we can all guess how that will end)...

Our local one takes them, fixes them up and lets them go again.

The pigeon problem resolved itself overnight. I now need to work out what to do with a dead pigeon (and I'm not cooking it), which does not involve going in my bin for a week in this weather.

Bury it or take it to a local vet practice who will usually have something set in pace with a pet crematorium to deal with dead wildlife or through it into some dense shrubbery.

Double or triple bag it, freeze it and stick it in the bin on collection day.

And make sure the kids don't notice any of this, otherwise you'll end up with something like this in your garden -https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272822765421

Ask me how I know....

(I'm hoping somebody will steal it, but it seems even gypsies have better taste)
