Pink spots/growths in fish tank?

My 8 year old fish tank has suddenly (over the last 2 months or so?) started growing a large number of pink spots like in the picture below. They only seem to occur in cracks and crevices, leading me to think they might be an algae growth, because the snails do a decent job of keeping the tank free from algae normally. Water quality is fine, changed regularly and tested as normal. Nothing new has been added (that I can think of), and fish heath has been fine too, although recently I've had an issue with fungal/bacterial infection which Im treating them for. The guys at the pet shop didnt know what these were, so does PH know?
