Had to make the decision none of us ever want to today.

Jake our soft cuddly lump of love aged 15
Gone over the bridge

He had started getting a achey and a bit wobbly on his legs but regular vet checks showed he wasn’t in too much pain and Metacam was keeping him a happy chap still enjoying a plod around the fields or on the beach

We were away last week stopping at a farm br Scarborough and he just didn’t seem himself,
This morning when I went to work he didn’t come for his usual fuss and when his mum got up later he had started being sick and there was blood in it so she rushed him to the Vets.

She rang me at work and we agreed it was time to do the right thing for him, so I drove to the Vets and we both cuddled him and cried like babies as he went to sleep.

His 8 year old sister hasn’t left my side since we got home.

Will always miss you Jakey boy cry

So very sorry to read this.

My wife and I have gone through this with three Labradors over our 30 year marriage and we currently have an eleven year old chocolate boy who is plagued by arthritis.

None of ours got past 14 though. I think 15 is a good innings.

It doesn't get any easier.

Sad to read.... I have a friend with an identical dog to Jake and a similar vintage.

My first dog was a black Lab - Jason. I was 2 when he joined us and 16 when he left. I've had many since and loved them all equally but Jason will be the one waiting to meet me when I finally leave.

Commiserations.

Sorry for your loss.

Just remember the good times you had and know you gave the best life. And you will meet again when your souls are ready.

Thanks all I know it’s just another day for everyone else but this has hit us to the core and I just needed to blurt it out rather than bottle it up

My parents had to have their Golden Retriever put to sleep last Tuesday. He was 14 and a half and was the most friendly, intelligent, trusting, chilled out dog we have ever had.

The last week has been really difficult for them and myself. Been trying to come to terms with him not being there, by looking through old pictures of the fun times we had together, which has helped a tiny bit.

I know what you are going through though.
It will take time. I am still not there yet a week on, it has affected me more deeply than any other loss.

A week is no time at all.

Four years it took me after my flat coated retriever died at 7 1/2.

OP - Losing any pet is awful. Time though is a great healer

To answer your question - the sadness at this stage is the price you pay for the previous 15 wonderful years.

Lost our boy just over 3wks ago, he was only 11.

So sorry for your loss, nothing compares to a dogs friendship which is why it hurts so bloody much when they leave us.

Had to have my beloved 13 year old cat cat Noodles put to sleep tonight. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma about a month ago and with the aid of steroids has been fine up until yesterday when he didn't want food and just laid in his bed all day. Took him to the vets this evening and sadly there was nothing to be done for him. I cuddled him as the dead was done and managed to make it to the car before bursting into tears. I feel so empty tonight.

I don’t think I would make it out of the surgery before the tears come.

RIP Noodles

Sorry to hear that.
I’m afraid I’m a massive softy when it comes to our furries I was on the floor cuddling him and crying as soon as I saw him.
