I was going to ask whether there was any update
I understand your concern, but I think it's a good sign that she's starting to trust humans - that's half the battle. In our experience, once they realise you're not going to rush them or hurt them (and that you are a source of food and fuss!) they will come around, given time. It's good that she's been in a foster home as that will have started the process.

She will have had nearly 2wks in foster, 5 days longer than planned but that should be a blessing hopefully. please be very careful if you intend to get one of the many so called rescue dogs from Romania, Hungary etc.
Many of these so called charities are OCG (organised crime groups), dog are stolen and it is a complete and utter racket.
Passports and vaccination paperwork/status is often fraudulently completed.

Thanks Who me?
We had a Westie from a pup until we lost him at only 11 a few months ago so we’re familiar with their qualities. We were also considering a Cairn this time.
Yours looks lovely.
A Cairn ( if you can find one) is the original source of the Westie. One story of Westie history is that light coloured versions of Cairns were used in otter hunts as myopically challenged southern hunters could not tell the difference between dark Cairns and otters and a lot of valuable Cairns were being shot as otters. We had a Westie from a pup until we lost him at only 11 a few months ago so we’re familiar with their qualities. We were also considering a Cairn this time.
Yours looks lovely.
Then the light coloured breed took off, with th white versions being selectively bred ,and becoming known as West Highland Terriers. But ,basically they are a sept of the clan Cairn.

How are things going?
Not sure to be honest! She only ate half her breakfast but it's the 1st day she's been given free run of the house & she came out to explore when left on her own.
Let her out with our other dog for the 1st time & she followed him into the garden before turning tail & running back to bed! Picked her up & carried her out & again, once I left she had a good nose around.
Still very scared obviously but hopefully some ground made today.

It's still very early days. I shouldn't worry too much, just give her time and space. Like I said earlier, Rosie was very scared of open spaces to start with. She'd skirt around the fence in our garden looking for escape routes, before disappearing into the border and trying to dig her way out! She was also very nervous when she was eating and didn't like taking treats from us. How are she and Arlo getting on?
Pretty much ignoring each other, we moved her into the living room tonight as the sun room was just too cold & it felt wrong having her isolated. She's in her crate (door open) while he's fast asleep on a sofa! She did growl lowly at him earlier when he got too close to her in her bed!She ate tonight & came back in from the garden on her own. Thankfully she's been clean, foster mum said she'd only had 1 accident in 13 days - amazing considering.

unfortunately - the Cairn in the photo suffered spinal problems in April and to save her a lot of suffering vet recommended PTS. We had a Westie from a pup until we lost him at only 11 a few months ago so we’re familiar with their qualities. We were also considering a Cairn this time.

But for folks looking at a rescue. You have to resign to fact that even the best rescue comes with what I call baggage. Some good, some bad.
I've rescued for most of our 48 years of married life, but I'll keep to our last ten years.
1- Toby a Large dark Cairn. A Mssr Poiret at home and away.In the three years we had the pleasure of being owned by him, he only crapped in the rear garden once. He loved kids, and more so teenagers ,constantly seeking out his previous owners teenage grand daughter. But I suspect h'd had a tussl with something like a Staffie in his younger years and his previous owners tried to stop him getting involved. He'd sense this and become more protective and aggressive. My cure was to let him see that I had no fear of large dogs and made friends with them.
2- Shona( as per photo). She was an ex puppy farm brood bh. Her only fear was being kept outside a supermarket . But what shows as a lovely coat in the photo came after a lot of proper feeding /coat care and attention. And her teeth- years of breeding had taken it's toll on her general health and teeth.
3- Lexi- A JRT/Yorkie as per the last photo. She has no discernable physical problems, more mental ones. She has no problems with dogs, but is terrified of people. I'm told that at RSPCA, a lot of folk wanted her, but she rejected them. Till she spotted us. She made it clear that we were her choice. We have a lot of doggy frinds on our daily walks and she has taken to then, but their owners have had a lot of work to get close to Lexi.
So for anyone taking on a rescue- it can be hard work, but it's worth it to see the dog shed the baggage and become a well socialised dog.

I lost Shona some time in April, and wanted a Cairn ( rescue) to replace her. Sadly there were non to be found. But in the large world of dog rescue, this little lady ( AKA LEXI, a JRT/Yorky x ) found us. Lexi found Swimbo soft spot ,and thn workd on me. Resistance to a dog like her is futile. Lexi spends hours on my knee ,and on the knees of my kids and the grand kids. Lexi wants & needs love. How is Missy doing now?
She has a mountain to climb bless her but she is starting to show her character & slowly coming out of herself. Starting to love the garden & all the smells & sensations it has to offer, probably never been used to exercise. Sadly it seems she's got an allergy to something & has had to visit the vets due to nibbling, Westies are notorious for allergies but hopefully we can get on top of it as she's having to wear the cone of shame a lot.
Still scared of most things & won't let anybody approach her, she will come to us sometimes, especially if Arlo is there, she is learning to rely on him. She has a natural curiosity which is helping to overcome her fear, loves treats too which helps & is now eating well.
She is a little thief, especially fabrics & paper!
She is such a lovely dog, 3wks with us & I couldn't imagine being without her, currently fast asleep in her new, warm & very comfy bed!
We also applied to Cairn rescue but no dog became available.
