Microchip cat flap

Due to problems with a marauding Bengal, for a peaceful life I think I need to invest in a microchip cat flap.

I tried one before, from PetSmart, but my cat didn't like the outside tunnel, and the loud click when it operated spooked her away.

So is there one that is quiet in operation and preferably doesn't need a tunnel? (I guess that's where the sensor is though). I've looked at a few on Amazon but can't decide which is best.

Thanks, a good start. They have six models... so now I have to figure out which is the most appropriate. I'd much prefer some clear diagrams then cute videos with binky-binky music on...

I've used a PetPorte for 10 years with my two, and recently tried the SureFlap which ended up going back to Amazon within 2 days. A shame as I liked the app integration.

The PetPorte has no tunnel, but does have a fairly loud click. They all do really as they use solenoids to lock/unlock.

I'm sure your cat would get used to it if she had to, i.e. given enough time, using hunger as a motivator and being a bit harsh on only allowing her to come in via the flap. You might find that the tunnel + the click is what does it, as you're introducing a strange noise in a confined space.

SureFlap has no aerial extension hood like the PetPorte, so if your cats chip is poorly positioned, it won't read it. This was the case for my two and the reason it went back.

SureFlap (the basic model) worked really well for our cat (sadly recently deceased)

It didn't fail in 10 years of operation - really pleased with it, and also had it mounted in a double-glazed unit in a patio door.

The sound of the actuator didn't seem that loud and our cat used it almost from day 1 without issue

I like it because the reader is over the top, not a tunnel. £££ though, but if it keeps the Bengal out it's worth it in saved vet's bills alone.

Yes that’s the one.

You can also set it to lock and unlock at certain times to limit their outside time, either at set times or based on sunlight. Very handy.

Thanks all - in the end I've ordered both models from Amazon to have a look at, and the less-good one can go back.

Hope I can teach my cat to work it, as the ****ing Bengal was trying to get in again this morning. I think the owners either don't feed it enough, or kick it out all day.
