Awful news, lots of us been there and it breaks your heart.
As above tell us about him, lovely animal.
Thanks all not sure how to reply/quote multiples…

He was incredible, Husky/German Shepherd mix. The brains of a GS but the stubbornness of a Husky, which made for an interesting combo 😂.

He lived by his rules, he was 13 and a half when he went, often mistaken for a younger dog, the above photo was taken last year. Although his last year or so was blighted by Degenerative Myelopathy, he still had a zest for life, walking and playing being his favourite things. Up until the DM started getting a bit heavier a 2/3 hour walk was still followed by chasing a ball around the garden. Towards the end the walks were more like 20 mins, but still would be followed by chasing a ball around.

He could communicate so well, letting everyone know what he wanted.

When he was younger he got attacked a couple of times, nothing major but enough to put him on edge with other dogs, but he had a couple of friends, it took months to build up trust with them but once he got there just mentioning their names was enough to make him run to the front door excited to go out.

It wasn’t the DM that got him in the end, we knew there would be a time when we had to make the dreaded decision, but in the end that got taken out of our hands, and he took a turn yesterday morning. Surgery etc was discussed with the vet, every part of me was willing to pay whatever was needed, but it wouldn’t have been fair to put him through it, particularly the recovery period, and the condition he was in yesterday I think there would have been a high chance he wouldn’t make it.

As hard as it was, I had a fantastic 13.5 years with him

Unknown-user, what a lovely lively dog he was, thanks for telling us about him.

Thirteen and a half isn't a bad innings for such a big fellow and it sounds like he had the life that millions of other less fortunate dogs would have gladly swapped places with him.
Thats all we can do, try and give our loved best friends a decent life, thankfully we have the choice to ease them on gently when they are suffering without putting them through medical ordeals only to lose them anyway.

Keep well.

Every year, around the anniversary of getting our youngest in April 2021, I try to snap them together in the same spot outside our house..

To see the progression of both is great… not sure there will be a 2027 equivalent with the old girl frown

Looks like we have a new dog incoming (being rehomed), didn’t meet her myself yet. But things are finally happening!
Had to push Mrs for it though.

Been nearly two years since Gucci passed away (in August), and I’m ready for another bundle of joy!
