Myrtle met a huge tank of a Staffy today, along with a Rotty, many Labs and Goldens and some other big dogs. Nothing phased her. I love your two together. Gigi waking Bella with a squeaker is delightful.
Congrats 47p2 - was the rosette for your car or Brodie?
It s Daddy s 9th birthday today so as we were all at my mums we took a mini pack walk.
Hard to believe how he is since he first turned up on my doorstep over eight years ago with his then owner and my eldest.
He was a wretched little handbag dog that understandably protected only her (as she calls it, a mattress actress).
Initially staying for around six months he hated everyone and everything, except my elderly Lab, Locke. Daddy didn t really like my Collie X much at all.
They left for a while then resurfaced again in the following year in the next county with a rap artist. Here in begins a tale of how dark the adult and music industry can be.
I picked Daddy up one night from a flat and he stayed a few weeks with daily contact from his owner. Suddenly this stopped. Flat was boarded up. They d both been arrested. She released on bail as such (he actually went to prison but has since made award winning music out of that). I managed to track her down (via the industry) picked her up from an Air BnB and took her home with me.
A few months later I was asked if I d be Daddy s perm carer as she realised he had a much better life was for him and was bonded with Locke, but with two elderly dogs I couldn t do it. So my eldest said they d take him, but Jack was about to head off for the reality TV filming and on the cusp of amazing things so Daddy stayed with me. Over this time I lost my Lab and Daddy eventually bonded with the Collie who passed around a year later.
Daddy then went to live with Jack where he still is, 19 teeth less, and staying with me on occasion when Jack is out of the country (Ibiza in a few weeks with Grace Jones).
Daddy is a lot calmer now, adores my other half (hence him finally relenting to a second dog), he s tolerant of Seth and plays on his terms, same with Myrtle. Still wary of most strangers and will snap if anyone tries to stroke him. Also managed to leave bite marks on my step son recently when he tried to pick him up, despite Daddy s lack of teeth.
Sorry long story!
Then

This evening. Beside less teeth he s much healthier, a good weight and much whiter with no dark circles around his eyes.

Mum was put on end of life last week, home hospice care starts tomorrow, I m still staying here and Jack is over most days. On our walk Jack was talking about finding a four leaf clover and how magical it would be. I looked down and saw one as they said it! I picked it and showed Jack who took three steps and screamed, bent down and also found a four leaf clover. We continued looking for the rest of the walk to no avail. Random piece of fate.

Incredibly sad day today but it was time for us to say goodbye to Moo. She outlived her brother Louie by almost 2 years, but time has caught up with her. She's gone blind, has doggy dementia and wasn't really getting much enjoyment from life. She just slept and when she wasn't asleep she'd just walk around confused crashing into things. She was spoilt with salmon, tuna and chocolate and the vet came to our house to put her down, which is much nicer than a mad dash to the vet as we did with her brother.
It's probably the hardest decision we've ever made. How do you really know when it's the right time?
Anyway, thanks for the memories Millie. 2009-2026. X
