Our little man (Maltese) got attacked by a XL-sized pit bull-cross thing yesterday afternoon. And unfortunately, I wasn’t there to protect him. It’s eating me up inside.

I haven’t been this upset, or full of tears since my grandma passed away.

I don’t want to post any graphic photos. Mrs visited him at the vets today and took a video. I couldn’t bear to see him in such a state.

Potential nerve damage due to a spinal injury, he got mauled pretty badly. Vets do all they can to stabilise him, was in shock which is understandable.

There’s hope but it could go either way.

Police are involved, so far with limited success. We’re not sure if their dog is insured etc. I’m in a bad place.

That's really sad to hear. I hope it's a positive result for you. My aged collie got mauled by a staffie and I know how you feel. I've nothing against bull breeds but some of the owners really need a good mauling themselves.

Fingers crossed tomorow won't be such a bad place for your dog and your family.

He needs a complex operation to stitch him back up, and due to his age - can’t even sedate him. Said wouldn’t survived it yesterday. As he was in shock. Pumped him full of painkillers.

We can’t put him down, he’s a fighter.

Some people are pure scum, so called dog lovers. Who did nothing to stop it. I’m so angry, and upset.

It’s hurting me so much. frown

So sad to read this.

Hope he got through the night and the prognosis is better this morning.

Wish there was something I could say that would take the pain and anger away.

Good luck

We phoned for an update. He’s comfortable, and has eaten a little.

Police also visited the vets.

We’ll take some home cooked food later.

Fingers crossed they track down the other party, s like that need to be put down, makes me so mad that we as a society put up with them.

So sorry to hear this OP, my thoughts are with you guys, it must be horrendous for you.

This is one of my worries with my dogs as they are small, however I like to think that when walked off lead they are walked in areas that generally you are unlikely to encounter knuckle draggers out and about with their badly trained bigger status dogs; country parks, farm land, along the river etc, not sure if that is actually a thing though or I am just trying to make myself feel a bit more at ease!

My daughter is an RVN at a well known referral, she has seen some horrible dog on dog attack injuries, occasionally she will put up photographs of injuries or x-rays on our family chat.

Woke up today hoping to read he'd made it through the night.

He's gonna make it. Go in and see him, he'll be wondering where you are.

Apologies for a late reply, had to put a shift in. We did go during daytime and brought him food. But he didn’t eat it.
Later update is that they were hose feeding him, if that’s the correct phrase.

Very sorry to hear this. Dogs are amazingly resilient creatures so I am hopeful for him to make it through. Very very distressing to have your dog attacked.
