Saw one yesterday, barely seen any this year.

Yes, I've noticed there haven't been any wasps or flies for about the last four years, but this year I have seen a few flies. I don't know whether there are fewer of them, or they've just gone somewhere else recently.

All insect life has been severely affected by the dreadful spring we had. They’ve been reports from all over the country how sightings are down dramatically.

I visited a Lavender field/farm shop cafe last weekend and will say the opposite, walking through the Lavender field there was a huge amoung of bumble & honey bees, but sitting outside the cafe enjoying a cream tea they had Josticks burning on every table in an attempt to keep the huge number of wasps at bay, this didn't appear to work so I put some jam on a spoon and placed it on the table, the wasps took more interest in that so were a lot less annoying

It was the topic of a BBC News article the other day:

Exactly what we do. I figure they're just after a bit of grub so happy to let them have a bit. Personally, I find wasps fascinating things. If you go at anything with rolled up newspaper they're going to get a bit tetchy. But let them do what they do and they're fine!

they all came to my sodding house and made a colossal nest in the roof. two weeks after killing it off they're still crawling in through the internal gaps and finding their way into my kitchen!

however, I left another nest alone as I felt a bit guilty reading the news articles about them frown

Personally, I can’t stand the things. However, I understand that they are a necessary part of the ecosystem and do a lot of good. Apparently, it is quite common for them to have “a bad year!” The only problem being that they often have a very good year immediately after. That being the case, I intend to enjoy as many pub gardens as I can this year!

Yes hardly see a wasp now. Lots of bees in my garden at the moment which is good to see.

If you want to see wasps, just look in my garage loft!

I’m picking up some nest killer today from toolstation.

I've only seen one wasp this year so far. It was abnormally small but still had the usual wasp markings.

I didn't spot this one. Stung my lip and cut short a rare pub visit. I'd agree though to seeing fewer this summer. So far this is, lots of insect life is running behind schedule this summer.

A wasp dropped into my can of cider last week whilst I was out pegging down the awning.

1st day of the holiday and I had lips like Jordan, painful too, bloody pests.

It may not have seemed like it at the time, but if you get stung on/in the mouth/neck, you are lucky not to have required a trip to casualty. It’s only one of the many reasons why I hate wasps.

Definitely a lot less around but I for one have not missed the stripy cs this year.

To miss-quote a recent Viz Letterbocks letter Bees are black and yellow, wasps are black and yellow and are bds.

If there's no immediate health risk then I'd leave it be. The nest will be abandoned in just a few weeks and they don't return. Great for the garden.

All the wasps in Shropshire are nesting in the eaves of my roof.

Unfortunately I can’t leave them be because a scaffold is going up for works and already delayed, but a pest controller is on it tomorrow.

Very few jaspers in Bakewell, where they are usually big enough to carry your sandwiches off.

Since reading this thread I've been stung twice (two separate days) and so has my dog.

There must be a nest in the ground or somewhere low down as all four attacks were in the same spot on our early morning walk.

Send them over the border to T&W. Everyone round here is plagued by house flies.
