Just back in our hotel after a wee freeriding session in Bansko. Up high there is still plenty of snow and sunshine. Will be back for more tomorrow... Who said that spring skiing is not fun...
Make sure you go to Amigos for a late evening it's really good fun. Happy End too straight from skiing is good.
Friend who has chalets in the 3V told me yesterday that the whole resort is closing a week early due to the poor conditions, even at 2000m its too warm.
As for speeds, both my son and I have seen over 100 km/ph on various gps and phone apps, normally when truly going for it on the long reds in Val Thorens.
When we do a long pre planned tour of the area we aim to cover in excess of 100 km in a day, but that can be a tough day. A few of his mates will no longer come along with us as they say its more like a boot camp

Not sure I believe that, I'd have thought we'd have heard from the lift pass companies by now if this was the case. I'd take it with a pinch of salt.As for speeds, both my son and I have seen over 100 km/ph on various gps and phone apps, normally when truly going for it on the long reds in Val Thorens.

Lets see, they have owned properties in the 3V for 20 years and know the locals, they were even given the dates. As I said . expect VT to close 1 week later than the others , as is the norm.

Because I no longer have the balls to try for 70 !There are many runs in VT where its perfectly safe to "have a go", just wait for it to be clear .
Of course we don't even attempt it on pistes where we have to pass others.
I had in my mind u were storming past people ...and when that happens to me it p1sses me off
Just finished a week in St Anton. Lots of snow but nothing fresh. Blue sky every day and 10-15c showing on the hill.
Meant that most runs are icy for the first 2h after they have been groomed, then you have 2h of reasonable conditions then it turns to slush and moguls for the rest of the day.
Never seen anything like it, people were skiing in shorts and t-shirts most afternoons.

It was ideal for a long weekend, any more than that and you'd find it a bit 'Ground Hog Day'. I'd look forward to going back earlier in the season. As we were only skiing 3 days we didn't take our own skis. Next year I'll definitely take mine as the local kit is reasonably good but poorly prepared (no wax and blunt edges).

We were there last weekend, it was our first time in Bansko, or Bulgaria. The runs are good and well maintained, just very limited in variety. We had the warmest conditions I've ever skied in, gondola station at Bankso by The Happy End was showing 27c last Saturday 25th! The Happy End was good, Amigo's was raucous and great value. The VIP Room at middle station was fabulous, and ridiculous value.

All up what was the 3 day cost?It was ideal for a long weekend, any more than that and you'd find it a bit 'Ground Hog Day'. I'd look forward to going back earlier in the season. The Amigos band were very good, the lead guitarist is excellent. A miracle he's still alive given his consumption, he looks to have a few miles on the clock.

Overall, they need to expand the area a bit. It is great to work on technique and the off-piste/touring is magic, but if you prefer slopes, then yes, it does get a bit boring. On the plus side, we skied immaculate corduroy every morning and food/booze is still amazing value for money. I think I will be back for a cheeky freeride weekend with mates next season again.
Currently in Banff in Canada. Conditions here are just great. There's still powder to be found and during the week the corduroy lasts until around lunchtime. Not too chilly at the top of the hills (approx -6°C/-7°C) and warm enough in town not to need a coat. Pretty much perfect springtime skiing - bring your sunscreen.
