I'm slowly exploring as much of the UK as I can, and wondered what people's favourite UK destinations were. This could be a general area, a city, a specific place, etc. You could name more than one, if you're struggling!

Whilst there's a few for me, the Scottish Highlands, and more specifically either Glen Coe area or Wester Ross area.

What are yours?

Plockton, for the view and the seafood. The drive up there isn't too shabby either.

/\/\ This :-)
Used to go to Morfa Nefyn as a kid. Must be 40 years since I first went.
Great memories. Used to walk further round the bay to the lifeboat station and then back over the golf course.

Also mention for:

Chatsworth House in the Peak District, just beautiful.

Brecon Beacons, Pen Y Fan but approach from the east

Buttermere in the Lake District

Three Cliffs Bay, The Gower

Putsborough Beach, North Devon

On my doorstep, Great for a dog walk and clear the mind on a non summer holiday day!

My votes are:

Stratford Upon Avon on a summers day, shopping, walk by the river, spot of lunch etc, Bath is very similar

Cardiff, friendly bunch, great nightlife and shopping, a good "city break"

Dartmoor and Exmoor national parks, both are stunning and lots to do, great walks, views and pubs.

Devon (Dartmoor) and Cornwall (north coast - Port Isaac, Tintagel, etc) for me.

At some point soon a trip to Scotland is in order, I've never been before but could imagine it becoming my favourite destination quite easily smile

I was going to mention these two areas, the North Devon coast (Saunton, Croyde, Putsborough, Woolacombe, etc.) has a bit more going on but is stunning. I like the Gower because is similar to North Devon but a bit quieter / less developed. As well as Three Cliffs Bay Rhossili is also well worth a visit.

But I think we're very lucky in the UK as there are so many other beautiful and unspoilt areas that I love, most of Scotland and if you don't want to go miles over the border Galloway is very nice. Wales - Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Snowdonia and most of the stuff in between. Cornwall, Devon, Norfolk, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Moors and the Pennines, Peak District, Northumberland Coast, Cotswolds, I could go on....

The locals will tell you off for calling them that not the Isles of Scilly!
Agree though, had two decent holidays there in the last few years ago. Favourite is St Martins.

Cornwall is generally my favourite although partially because I lived in Falmouth for 7 years.

In fact I'm definitely a south west boy, lots of childhood spent with family living in North Devon. Somerset and Dorset aren't too bad either.

I also like Pembrokeshire, visited on a very sunny long weekend for the first time last year and camped near St Davids.

Visited Scotland in feb for the first proper time and did Glencoe, Skye, Applecross in a long weekend, blown away by thr scenery and it was wall to wall sunshine with snow on the hills.

The UK is a fantastic place and you could spend literally years exploring it.

The pospect of leaving the UK for a while almost makes up for the experience of driving through Dover to do so.

As I get older I am really starting to appreciate having it on my doorstep. At 34 with kids and dogs I now realise how lucky I am to live where I do.

I was extremely impressed with North Wales when I went there a few years back, utterly stunning place.

You really actually said Blackpool seafront :-) You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. You should be careful.

I went to Blackpool once. I won't be making the same mistake again.
