Nothing special in the hotel itself but location wise the Ibis Centre Stopera I found more than do-able.

About a 10-15 minute walk from the Centraal Station, a few minutes walk north of Waterlooplein and you can get to Damrak/RLD fairly easily by taking your first right after the Waterlooplein car park and following the masses from there.

For an Ibis it was not too bad at all, far more spacious than the Budget and Styles variants I've stayed in before plus it had a half decent bar.

Personally, I'd opt for the DoubleTree Hilton Centraal Station. I've stayed there before, and it's very nice. It has a rooftop bar, and is right by the station. I liked it so much that I'm going to book there again this year.

£700 for 2 people for 3 nights sounds about right.

Looking on Booking.com for two nights at the end of July the Doubletree Hilton is around £590.

Do your research carefully: Even the 4&5 star hotels in Amsterdam can have 'quirks' & the lower starred ones can be dreadful.

What about Airbnb? You could pick up a much bigger place & there's plenty of places to eat out.

Check BA Holidays, and see if you can pick it up there. That's where I booked last time (with a decent saving) and will be doing the same this time.

This place. Big rooms, good location and the last time I was there the mini bar was free including booze.
