Evening all

We are off on honeymoon in July to Vegas, and we are looking at doing a Grand Canyon helicopter tour. I've had a quick google for PH threads on Canyon tours, and doesn't look like much on there from last 2 or 3 years, so I'm looking for some up to date recommendations. Best tour packages, who to book through etc.

Also, we've got plenty planned for Vegas, but any recommendations for something a little unusual that we may not have thought of? Cool restaurants, places to go etc.

Thanks in advance PH

We spent a few nights in vegas on our honeymoon, letting the hostess know it was a special occasion got us the best seat in the eiffel tower restaraunt where you overlook the bellagio fountains.

Hired a dodge challenger and drove around the canyon - lodge overnight on the south rim, then through zion national park, good times.

I've looked at helicopter tours in the past but always ended up driving or taking a plane over. The number of historic accidents involving helicopters and the grand canyon are a little too high for my taste.

The loop previously mentioned, South rim and back through Zion is definitely worth doing.

Me and SWMBO did a trip some years ago. Picked up by limo at hotel taken to airport. Helicopter out to canyon via a couple of circuits over Hoover Dam. Landed in Canyon for breakfast and a walk around for about half an hour then trip back down the canyon and down the strip before landing back at airport. Have to say it was the best trip I have ever done. Good commentary from pilot during flight on features of the desert etc. Think it was Sundance Helicopters.

We did the same with Maverick Helicopters. Champagne breakfast in the Canyon and a really comfortable modern helicopter (ECO-Star EC-130). Highly recommended.

I was there last summer, and used Sundance Helicopters. Did a great package that included pickup from hotel in Limo, flight over Hoover Dam and landing in Canyon with Champagne picnic. Would highly recommend them, seemed very professional.

Check the times of the flights as they vary in price during the day - we went late afternoon, the last one before the sunset trips started, and was much cheaper than the sunset ones or breakfast ones. I booked a couple of days before the trip via the website when I was in Vegas (I waited until I was there in case it was better to take advantage of local offers, but didn't seem much different at the time I went - early June)

I did a tour with Grand Canyon Airlines in January.

It was supposed to be a plane from Boulder city to the Canyon, walk around West side and then a helicopter tour.

Unfortunately i chose about the only day in the year it pissed down with rain and the helicopters where grounded frown

Very Wet and windy, Yet people still stood next to the edge!

The plane ride was very good, and decent views over the desert and over Hoover Dam (awful photo!)

Avoid the west rim (the one with the glass walkway over the edge), it's a disappointing expensive tourist trap

We were not disappointed once we got to the canyon. The experience before was bizarre.

We drove as one of our party did not want to fly in a helicopter.

Did this with a group of GI's when we were there, they got the full works so we tagged along.

I've done that and would agree it is not the best way to see the Canyon on your first trip. I enjoyed it having done the South, and possibly North, rim previously

The walkway isn't worth doing but the views were fantastic

Hello again

The Hmoon is rapidly approaching, we've booked our flight with Maverick, cannot wait. Also booked in to see O at the Belagio.

We're staying at the Luxor, and I've just stumbled across the 20 dollar trick. Anybody had any recent success with this?

Cheers

Sounds almost identical to the helicopter trip I did, mine was a dusk flight so coming back over the strip on the return to see it all iluminated

Yes/No/Maybe. If you are going for a decent length of time (as most Brits do) especially if a weekend is involved then it is unlikely that they can upgrade you massively, but you should be able to get a room with a view or on a high/low floor or be near/far from the lifts just by asking.

Also, the desk clerks are now being incentivised to get customers to pay for upgrades, rather than giving them away for 'free'.
