Been in Los Pocillos all week, Lanzarote. Not a cloud in the sky all week and 25' :-)
We stayed in Matagorda for several holidays so passed through there regularly. There looked to be some nice hotels?
We've stayed in the Riu Paraiso and found the hotel and the area very enjoyable.

Yup in the Riu looking over the pool as I type ;-) This is our 5th time to this hotel. Know all the staff now and always have a great time. Did the island years ago so often don't even leave the hotel now. Just sit reading by the pool.

This is the only reason I ever went to Lanzerote - because it was known to be windy!

Sadly I am now too old and unfit

We go to Lanzarote several times a year and stay in Playa Blanca.

After years of travelling the world on holidays we’ve decide that Playa Blanca is the place we enjoy the most.

We walk the entire length of the prom every day. 7 miles each way. Each lunch every day in one of the central restaurants looking over the ocean.

It’s quiet and suits us perfectly.

We love the quiet roads and the volcanic scenery. We have green at home.

All I would say is that we always avoid January and usually February too. They are the most unpredictable for weather.

October and November are the best for us.

July and August are very windy but hot. That’s when they hold the windsurfing championships on Fuerteventura.

Good job we’re all different eh? Playa Blanca suits us perfectly. We love it.

Booked a cheapie week in Corralejo over on Fuerteventura for the first week in September.

Booked the flights via Jet2 and an apartment close to the town centre via ownersdirect.co.uk.

Has anyone been to Rancho Texas? Looks like a half decent day out for us with the little one?

We’ve been there 3 times now.
Did the evening show years ago with my wife before the kids arrived, decent evening out.

Went back in 2014, my daughters were 8 and 10 and they loved in. Spent 1/2 day in the zoo part and 1/2 day in the water park side. Can’t say that it’s either the biggest or best of either but an enjoyable and not too expensive day out.

They enjoyed it so much that when we returned to Lanzarote in 2016 it was on their must do list. It gets plenty of positive reviews on Tripadvisor.

As for Lanzarote in general I agree with many of the previous comments, there is very little in the way of culture, but for guaranteed sun it’s fine for a family break.
We’ve used a small apartment complex on the outskirts of Peurto del Carmen. Family friendly and quiet enough, convenient for the beach but not too close to be bothered by the nightlife.

Until the kids are older to appreciate a bit of history and culture it ticks all the boxes for two weeks in the sun.

Cheers, sounds like it’ll suit for a day.

Any other suggestions of places to visit with an almost 3 year old?

The only other thing I can suggest would possibly be a camel ride in the Timanfaya national park. The few other attractions El Golfo, Cactus Garden, Jameos del Aqua etc are all a bit more grown up.

There are a couple of other water parks on the island, we never visited them though, and reviews are mixed.

Although a bit older my kids were more than happy to spend time in the pool, or making sandcastles on the beach. Just looked through our photo album and most of the pictures confirm this.

At Rancho Texas are pictures of them at the parrot, wild bird and sea lion shows, including them holding the parrots, “panning for gold”, posing in front of the zoo animals and playing in the water park. Your 3 year old should love the place.

Looking forward to getting there, 7 weeks Thursday!

Still unsure if to hire a car? Never done it before, but with an active child it may be worthwhile having a car so we can go out a bit more?

You'll berth in Corralejo. The port area is a bit of a dump but its an easy stroll to the town along the seafront path and then along the beaches to the north tip of the famous sand dunes. Our favorite restaurant is La Playita by the small town beach near the old quay but there's plenty of others to choose from.

If you hire some wheels for a day then just for a taste of the island drive out of Corralejo and to El Cotillo through Lajares. El Cotillo has some stunning beaches - a long one to the south and lots of small sandy ones north towards the lighthouse.
El Cotillo is fantastic especially for the Winter months.

We have only just arrived so not sure how cool the evenings are.

Yes I saw the review, while nobody likes a bad review I can relate to what was said, the reply wasn't’ The best but that seems to be the typical reply to something negative, the response could have been so much better.

They have forsale signs in the window now.

As for the hire car, it needs to be in sport mode in eco mode it has no idea what gear it needs to be in. As for needing a hire car, we use ours to get us to and from the airport, that’s it. The only time we used a car for more than that was when the wife broke her ankle on the golf course up the side of hesperia dorada
