NO SPOILERS

Anyone else watching? yikes

Has a very 'Game of thrones' feel to it, with Kit Harington starring and directing. Interesting storyline and historical accuracy.

Side note.. I'll warn that some distressing content considering the time it's aired - BBC may get some complaints

Harrington is AWFUL. Otherwise, it was slow.

A Kit Harington vanity project?

From what I saw he was just playing Jon Snow again. I don't know why people go crazy for him, he's not got much personality.

Sort of. He's related to Robert Catesby.

I like the "No Spoilers" reference smile

It's akin to putting "No Spoilers" in a discussion about the film Titanic smile

I thought it was OK although I think it would be more suited to a Sunday night rather than a Saturday night.

It's a bit like an Aldi version Game of Thrones.

Average watch but surely beats that Connie woman having a milfy tantrum on Casualty every week.

I don’t get the Game of thrones references?
I didn’t see a single dragon, although I admit I didn’t watch closely.

I read something William Defoe said the other day, it was something like if you’re an actor and you’re smart and you want to make lots of money you should just keep doing the same thing. I.e. don’t try and play a completely different character in everything you’re in. I think Kit Harrington read that too hehe

Can't blame her really. You would too if Charlie the Nurse was being paid more than you smile

Just done the second and third episodes on IPlayer and quite enjoyed it - surely better than your average BBC serial.
Great atmospheric scenes although one or two were very dark ( as in little daylight ), but a good commentary on the times.
No holding back in the dungeon either.
Enthused to read a bit more about the lesser known characters now.

Indeed it does have a GoT vibe to it. Kit is ok, he's basically doing his schtick. It's all going along OK at the moment and the League of Gentleman guy isn't too annoying.

Smiler.

Holy crap it's graphic, only 25 mins in. One tends to forget it wasn't all Erroll Flynn in those days.

Dooley is playing his part well.

He's been stealing a living with acting more wooden than Travis Perkins timber yard.

Very well produced but it got far too graphic for my liking and I turned it off.

A shame as I was enjoying it up to "that" point, but that sort of graphic content is not for me I'm afraid.

I watched the first episode last night and thought it was excellent. I like Harrington, though I see why others don't. It was indeed pretty brutal, but I read an interview with KH and I thought he justified it pretty well. Personally, I thought it did a great job of showing the persecution that led to the gunpowder plot - yes they could have explained the context in an opening crawl but seeing it up close and personal and from the POV of those seeing their loved ones being tortured to death gave real context to the feelings of anger and needing something to be done.

I watched Bone Tomahawk over the weekend (fantastic Kurt Russell western released 2015) and there is a particular scene in that that was so brutal and shocking that I don't think I'll ever be shocked again - so this was easy in comparison! If you Google it - you have been warned.

This 'tweet' that is being used in all the outraged articles about the gore made me laugh -

"This execution scene is one of the most painful things I've ever witnessed on TV."

The scene where a woman gets 'pressed' to death and then someone is hung, drawn and quartered, while still alive? Yeah, no st.......

Thought it was ok but don’t really get all the fuss about the gore. There’s probably more in a Tom & Jerry cartoon.
