Perhaps other dealers are following Cambridge, into the world of limited editions.

Where there's a bandwagon to be jumped on.......

I may suggest to JCT that they have a 'JCT600 SE' or maybe HR Owen could have the HRO Ultimate Edition! hurl

Its getting a bit crass when all these so called limited editions are being churned out on what is appearing to be a never ending cycle.

Surely AM owners cant be that daft??? nono

All IMO of course

I'm not aware of it being done to the same levels of detail as Cambridge, but actually, this is far from new

Stratstones have done a number of this kind of thing, stretching back a good few years

These types of things are by definition, primarily only marketed through the dealership so we often don't get to hear about them - I have to assume other dealerships around the world have done this kind of thing and in fact, I now seem to recall that Galpin (the big US dealership) have done some too

Also, Neiman Marcus have teamed up with Aston at least once for a limited edition for their christmas catalogue

Why is it daft ?

Someone is interested in say, a DB11. They aren't the type to perhaps do what I've just done and invest an incredible amount of time with Q, but instead they see a scheme that is a bit different to the norm which appeals to their personal taste and go and buy it

Nobody is suggesting that just because of the words 'limited edition' it should carry a rarity based premium. These are trim specials, no less, no more. What is daft about it ?

I said IMO.

At this level we are all capable of making our own decisions if 'personalisation' is being sought. I cannot think for one minute that the car will not have additional margin far above what it cost but hey ho, each to their own.

I think that your statement of rarity premium is incorrect as that is most definitely what is being indirectly implied.

Again, all IMO

AML are a business again now, so I hope they will be including an item on your invoice, Jonby,

- Q Very Special Option - Hours and hours speaking to Mr. Jonby = £5,000.

A brief aside on limited editions.
AP spoke recently to the media, about a couple of customer commissions each year (aka GT12 Roadster).
I was interested that he said, there are occasions when you will never hear about them.

A brief aside on attracting more upmarket customers.
Vanquish S Zagato - "Some well-heeled buyers have ordered one of each, of the high-end quartet."
Now I know, why I no longer receive the AM Magazine.
Next there will be revised parking at Gaydon.
' Aston Martins Only - (round the back for any under £1,000,000 ) ' _ wink

I get that it's in your opinion Tony, I'm genuinely interested in why in your opinion, the buyers of these kinds of things are daft. To me, I see nothing daft in someone liking a ltd ed that offers something that bit different trimwise. I also actually quite like the 'honesty' of the cars that don't pretend to be offering a performance advantage and simply are what they are

By definition, these are not cars for people who want personalisation. Being a little different to the norm is not the same as personalisation though is it ? I know plenty of people who for all different types of reasons just want a finished product presented to them, which is a little different to the 'standard', but doesn't require much legwork on the buyer's part

Same as a kitchen or bathroom. It's very much not me, but I know plenty of people who would just like to pick a finish and then leave it entirely to someone else to do the legowork. They might like something a bit different from the norm, but have zero interest in putting in any of their own input

:-)

The whole point about Q now going for a minimum spend of course is that whilst they appear to make a decent margin on most options, if the total spend is just a thousand or two, the £s margin, regardless of high a %age it might be, doesn't pay for the management time, including the time spent dealing with the customers. The minimum spend, I would guess, has partly been brought in to take that into account.

But when a small run is done with Q, be that the Stratstones mayfair edition (I forget which model), or for that matter, the incredible Cambridge editions, economies of scale come in.

A couple of quite different options I looked at with Graham and Ian, for bespoke Q 'parts', would have cost very roughly £2.5k per car if all three of us ordered, but c. £6k if just one of us ordered - in each instance, £5-6k was a fixed cost, spread over how many cars needed the part regardless if one person or ten people bought it and the variable cost of making each one was just £500 - 1k per part. So going back more to Tony's post, there can be cost advantages of these small runs - I am sure that factored very heavily indeed in the Spitfire & Red Arrows cars

Every Christmas interesting tro see what they have, this year you can buy something for you and her (or him):

The Aston was 3 years ago:

I asume most Aston buyers are not so naive to pay extra for these "pure for marketing purposes" editions (like the hundreds of special editions of Porsche 911......)

Totally agree with this. I have a friend that is specing an AMR and the detail is astonishing. I really couldn't be arsed.

If anyone wants me to post a pic of my black with black car that includes a touch of red just shout

Here is one in the US for sale. With Scottish Tweed interior, 7 speed manual V12 roadster. Wish I could justify getting, it is really beautiful in my opinion.

I think that AM Newcastle are developing a DB11 ‘Toon’ Special Edition.

Interior will be in black and white stripes of course. There will be a special extra, elongated cubby hole in the dash in which to fit your Greggs Sausage Roll (also known in these parts as a Geordie Dummy).

Of course there will be no need for those little coat/jacket hooks in the rear as such items are NEVER worn.

Speaking of the rear, as we know the seats are only able to take children maybe up to the age of 15. So that’s the girlfriend and the ‘bairn’ taken care of then.

Some of the local characters have designed a method of removing all wheels in ten seconds flat. Rumour is that you will be able to buy Original AM bricks to stack under the car. Branded of course at £200 each.

There may be a problem with the tyres though, because if they’re like the football team they will always be going down.

As a certain someone on here says “just avinalarf”.

It's been there for months. Wish I could afford, they would probably make a good deal on it. Unfortunately that interior will not appeal to most, if it had been black interior most likely been gone by now.
