After some ideas for a weekend in London near Christmas. Plan to go to the winter wonderland, dinner, maybe a show. Bar with a view? Heron tower maybe.

Is it worth staying near hyde park for the above, or travelling out to it, just for the markets etc and staying somewhere else?

Don't really want to spend the weekend sitting on the underground, so I suppose a theatre near the hotel and restaurants would be great!

I wouldn't stay near Hyde Park - it can be a bit quiet/expensive round there.

If you pick your tube journey wisely then it shouldn't be too bad. So catching Circle/District/Met/Hammersmith & City trains are much bigger and nicer to travel on than the 'tube' trains (e.g.Central Line) You could easily walk from St James Park tube to WWL in HP - and it's a nice walk too.

As to where to stay - anywhere within Zone 1 should find you within easy reach of attractions. Depends how much you want to spend, but 150 pounds a night won't go far IMHO.

The Conrad at St James Park would be nice, but not cheap.
