The Mrs has booked flights for my 30th Birthday end of feb (top girl!)

Looking for a reasonable hotel for 4/5 nights. Don’t want to spend mega bucks as I’m not planning on spending much time in the room, but at the same time I don’t want to stay in a travelodge. Maybe £150-£200 a night?

Any recommendations? We’re planning to tourist it up for a few days so would like a fairly central location.

She’s been before, stayed in the Waldorf Astoria and loved it. But wanting to keep this trip fairly low key as we are off skiing for 2wks on our return.

Any suggestions on what to do for a PH’er over and above the standard tourist bits?

Thanks.

I'm taking the wife there (without the kids) in January for her birthday.

The choice of hotels was never ending, so not sure there is a right or wrong answer. I ended up booking a suite at the Knickerbocker as is right on Times Square so close to the sights/Broadway. It's got a decent bar, and a cigar lounge (am partial to a decent cigar).

I stayed here for a week when I was there....

It's very quirky in a cracking old building, and the location is excellent. Fantastic quiet area to come back to and unwind after a day's sightseeing, with some excellent bars & restaurants nearby, including Chelsea Market.

I was going to post the same - I visit four times a year and always stay here when I'm in NYC. It and the area is perfect for someone aged 30. I have a room booked on Friday smile

Nice one! Do you go for work or pleasure?

The whole area is so cool, a real buzz to it.

stayed here right in the middle of broadway and 2 blocks from Times square. Around £200/night.

Only downside is continental breakfast, loads of places to get brekky nearby. Great location.

I stayed in the Dumont NYC near the Empire State building in Feb, but looks like it has been sold so no longer available - shame as had a kitchen so was great for longer stays. Will probably be looking out for another place next year, so keeping an eye on this thread.

I've stayed in http://www.hotelmetronyc.com/ Decent hotel, included breakfast and it's in a cracking location. There's a subway station about a minutes walk way too.

Just thinking out loud......has anyone looked into the option of staying in Brooklyn rather than NYC? It's just a subway ride between the two places. Are the hotels cheaper?

I’m currently sat in Heathrow Terminal 3 waiting for our flight to NYC. Staying at the Moxey Times Square. I’ll report back later. Previously stayed in the Edison in Times Square and also the Paramount. The former was great, the latter not so great.

We stayed in the Wellington Hotel. It is between Time Square and Central Park. It was very well priced but a little old fashioned.
It is in a great location if you want to do lots in Midtown.

I would recommend the Andaz on 5th Avenue - an oasis of calm. The rooms are big, and the basement bar is great. Some really nice touches too - like the free minibar in the rooms.

You could but as most things are in Manhattan you will need to constantly get the train. If your in midtown some places you can walk.

We stayed at the Roosevelt next to Grand Central. Perfect location and good value

I'd recommend the Novotel just off Times Square. Great location and value. Maybe a little below your budget, but def worth considering.
