What area have you bought in?
Is it a holiday home or are you moving over?

Ciudad Quesada, holiday home for now, and then move over.

I’ll have to make sure I’m wearing more than budgie smugglers on my terrace from now on, for your sake. smile

Where abouts in the Town? Golf Club side or closer to main strip?

This is like a mystery unravelling one line at a time!

As it's so exciting, and most of us are living vicariously these days, any chance of some less cryptic detail? I love these stories, partly as I'm thinking of doing something similar but in Portugal.

Okay. 1st point. Move to Spain........

Only kidding, anything you want to know; just ask and I am sure we will all advise the best we can.

I have a new neighbour smile Road runs off mine, and hence the budgie smuggler comment. Fairly sure that mart can see my house from his terrace.

I hope you can get taxis from the bars by the club house, the hill will be a killer otherwise.

Ha ha. Sadly the taxis from that area are few and far between and definitely a phone call. Aside from down by Don Carlos where the rank is, there’s little chance of a taxi anywhere without putting a call in and then it’s anyone’s guess whether it turns up at all or what time it does.

The walk home is best done in stages, with plenty of alcohol.

Shame that the access road that ran alongside the golf course finally fell away as that was a nice flat walk from near your new place without having to go up and down the mountain. There wasn’t much left of it when I was using it last year but the Gota frias of last winter finished it off properly.

Shame there isn't a bar half way back up for a break. Is that a lake or is it after the floods? The floods did quite a bit of damage last year. My dad had to have a new kitchen after them. Water got in through the extractor chimney, while he was in uk. A nasty shock for them when they got back.

Thanks, looks like a great area. Best of British with it all.
I’ve been following this thread as next year I’m looking to buy a place myself.
However, I think the heat might be too much for me in the summer months. So I’m thinking of renting for a year to see how I find it. It’ll give me plenty of time to get to know different places and house search. If it’s too hot then off to France it’ll be!

Can find an apartment in a complex with a pool for €80000.

I’m not sure of the region, but just following on from the conversation about this seems like a reds only priced humble place.

We’re both looking to move to completely remote working opportunities and move out of the rat race a little as we approach 40.

I’d appreciate insights into experiences and thoughts and guess that starts with reading this thread from the beginning. smile
Getting on/off the La Manga strip in the summer can be subject to long queues especially on Spanish public holidays and Sunday evenings as the locals community to/from their homes. Also, there is only one road along the strip and it can be very slow getting about in the summer.

You would be better off looking in the Playa Honda and Mar de Cristal areas. Possibly Los Nietos but it is very Spanish and without many facilities.

Generally though, it’s a lovely area with the benefit of the Mar Menor and the Med, with some lovely beaches, walks, and mountain biking around the Playa de Calblanque national park.

We’ve been visiting La Manga Club for 13 years, bought in 2011 and regularly cycle around the area. Feel free to run any properties past me for a quick location check.
Thanks Phil. Will take you up on that in the future. Thank you very much.

I think we might need to increase the budget a little for a bit more space. Thinking we could justify that it we rented it out as holiday home. I’m sure having someone to manage it would add costs too. I’ve started reading from the beginning to get an idea of what it’s like etc.

I don’t think we could afford a villa and it’s just the two of us.

I decided on the same as I approached my 40th.

Region wise for that property, it's where is being discussed earlier in this thread where Phil. and a few others have places. Very nice area.

Not sure on your requirements but to live there at all, let alone work there, it's a very small studio. It's quite an old build and where it says it has no heating, I assume that means it has no cooling either. You will need to address that as Spain can be roasting in summer and freezing in winter.

It looks as though the only window/light is to the front of the apartment so very dark. It's cheap, for sure, but to me that looks like very much a lock up and leave place to sleep at night and head to the beach all day, not somewhere to spend any amount of time or to work, but horses for courses.
Thanks. That’s all insightful stuff that I hadn’t even thought about.

I’ve just gone “ooohh apartment in Spain” I admit I didn’t get further than that initial excitement as we’d been talking about it and then I saw this thread.

We’ve been looking online and we’ve discussing as well about what we want to do and how and we know it doesn’t involve us staying in London. Part of me wouldn’t want to sell our place here in the UK, but at the same time I really fancy turning something like this from a dream/pub talk to a reality.

I think the most realistic option is something nice that we can rent out and see how we enjoy it and what the future holds. From researching it seems you can get a mortgage on bigger properties but need a bigger deposit.

I’ve been thinking around 35% deposit and then a small mortgage as Spanish lenders want to know that you’re not over 35% of your monthly income? It might not be doable for us but I’m keen to see what we might be able to do in the future.

We started off a couple years ago thinking about moving over to Spain. A couple of bottles of wine at the weekend and saying we would retire early out there. Luckily for us my dad spends most of the year out there. After going out there a few times looking at properties, we decided it was for us. We have been seriously looking lately at properties in the area for around €200k. Buy now and save for a couple of years , and move out.
Things have sort of speeded up as of last week. An estate agent WhatsApped me last Wednesday morning to give me the heads up on a villa that had been reduced. So managed to get hold my dad to view it. By 4pm we had paid deposit and signed the contract. We can't get the keys till the beginning of September.
We have decided now that by saving around €80k on a purchase, we don't need to wait the 2 years to save anymore cash.
Yesterday we called to my sisters to tell her we are putting the house on the market in July after we get back from a few days in Spain. A few hours after getting back from my sisters, she calls around and said she will buy our house. We are really looking forward to the move, hopefully we won't see another winter here.
