And this is where I think Spain will suffer if they don't do something soon - there will be more and more people who have had two jabs but don't want the third (or fourth) for whatever reason. There must be a lot of people who had the second one over a year ago?

Was a bit gutted that they have extended for another month but am now looking forward to a few days in Funchal at the back-end of next week.

Will they though ? it is their country and if people from the UK want to go they either accept they need all of the jabs or they don't go. It doesn't appear like the UK will go for jab number 4 so either none of us can go - which may change Spains mind or they will hold out as long as possible - 270 days from jab3.

I've had covid but never registered it so wouldn't be able to use the recovery certificate.
Having booked 2 flights to the canaries recently they all seem to be full, so it's not having an impact yet as far as I can see.

If they need a 4th jab, I'll just get one (as long as they are available). My 3rd expires in November and I plan to be out there again around that time. I suspect I'll get it with the yearly flu jab.

Done a bit more reading, it seems if your last vaccination is over the 270 days then you are considered unvaccinated and therefore require a PCR or Rapid Antigen test within a prescribed time limit, so whilst not ideal is at least doable.

I fear that there will be an awful lot of people that have booked holidays that will not be aware of this rule, its been in place in the relevant countries since 1st February 2022, but not really reported in the media.

Bit more reading, to cross into France from the UK if after 270 days you can go with a PCR or antigen, but Spain has no option, now as I'm driving from France to Spain in theory once in France as there are no borders it will be easy enough to cross into Spain, although illegal.

I just wonder how many people this is going to affect come August time it really does seem that the British are no longer wanted in Spain as far as the politicians are concerned.

I would be quite happy to get a 4th jab, but how, I don't fit the current criteria so its not available to me and many millions of other people, my 270 days expires on the 16th August and I'm due to travel on the 30th August.

Must have had your last dose within 270 days… The PCR test option is only available for citizens/residents, not tourists.

It will become a serious issue for Spain in late summer/early autumn as most Brits will be outside the 270 limit by then… and Spain does need British tourist spend.

Pretty sure the last of the covid madness will be over well before then.

My reading of it is that the 270 day limit is only if you've had two jabs. If you've had a 3rd, i.e. a booster, there is no time limit. Here's a badly highlighted excerpt from the UK government website:

Given that most people have had the 3rd jab will it be such a big issue? Also, despite what we may like to believe we are of course not the only travellers to Spain, plenty going from the rest of Northern Europe. I think the costs of flights and accommodation bears that out.

Maybe Derek and Sandra who run the Red Lion Only Fools and Horses bar might be hit by the older folk not coming, but is it really going to make that much of a difference?

That’s what I said at lunchtime - if boosted there’s no time limit.
What I hadn’t read was the flat refusal to let the unjabbed into Spain. Wow. That’s a strange decision.
Portugal would accept a test in lieu of a vaccine record. Not sure on France, I’ve not looked.
I’d imagine internal border crossing will still be fine - we’ve done France - Spain - Portugal with zero stops even in October/November2020 after they’d closed regional borders down. It’d be carnage if they were pulling traffic over to check vaccine records, even if they tried to target UK cars only.

I was in Spain at Easter - you have to fill out an online form 72 hrs in advance of travel to get a QR code to access Spain from the UK. The QR code is not available if you are >270 days. When we landed at Malaga they were checking. It may have changed a month later, but I'd not risk it.

I'm not sure "most people" have had a booster. I'm sitting next to one who hasn't , so in one house survey that makes 50%. I have several friends who have had none at all. Just in my household that means no more Spain after this month as she now can't come.

Ive just returned from a weekend in Spain . Flight out from Bristol was horrific. Full of pissed Welsh stags and hens , the latter being the loudest . I'd say around 8 people wore masks in total :-)

Return flight was civilised (Monday lunch time, all the tts prob returned Sunday). Spanish made us show masks before boarding (could not make us wear them (as their rules only cover flying now). Sat down , took ours off. When leaving the plane one of the Spanish stewards said to my mate "don't forget your mask". Wtf :-)

When you read that it does make you wonder if the spanish are trying to wean themselves off british tourism in certain areas.

It's all areas though, and as the above story shows the less 'cultured' Brits are still going. It's a brave decision to turn money away, but their country their rules I suppose.

‘Almost 7 out of 10’ of those aged over 12 have received the booster, up to 4 March so probably higher now.

But they’re not the brightest 70% are they and include all the stag/hen and Benidorm English/Irish pub lot smile Hardly the group of tourists that Spain might want to encourage to visit.

Ibiza has already started - restricted AI alcohol to six per person per day and no more cheap drinks in bars certain areas either. Full English will be next on the list..

Covid discussions aside, another beautiful day on the Costa Blanca. 30 degrees so fitted an early 8am game of padel tennis in before work. Dining on the terrace post work this evening and dining with some friends.

Same in Mallorca - my in-laws have a place near Santa Ponsa, when they went over recently the restaurateurs (they've been going 20+ years so know them quite well) were saying the Spanish were trying to attract the 'elites' now and getting away from the cheap booze reputation. Some of the cheaper restaurants serving roast dinners, etc. were changed to more traditional Spanish places. I think they're having a bit of a 'reset' post-Covid.

Weather’s fabulous here on the Costa Del Sol too… we’ve had a couple of weeks of mid 20’s. Shorts, t shirts and eating outside season has begun and won’t end for another 5 or 6 months.

My mate was over for the weekend and was in the pool everyday… the waters still a bit cold for me laugh

lol - I'd have hated to be anywhere near wherever the stags and hens were off to. Their behaviour in the airport was apalling, let alone on the plane. God only knows what they are like once in the sun and with shots in hand.

Back on the topic of buying property, we were offered the other day a 'free' week this summer at my wife's colleague's villa in Fuerteventura (free as in all we had to pay was changeover/ cleaning fees). Free because they were putting it up for sale so didn't want to formally offer it to rent, but we could pop along as they thought in this market it would take months to find a buyer.

It sold in 4 hours!
