Vietnam phone and data

Hi all
I a off to Vietnam for two weeks soon and have been considering phone usage.
As I’m self employed i need to “sleep with one eye on the phone” and respond to emails.
My provider (EE) seem to want £1.80 per minute and £5 per day for 5mb of data.
From what I’ve read using a local sim has issues with registration and it may be too much of a pain for 2 weeks.
So in view of time differences I’m thinking of directing all calls to mailbox maybe with a greeting explaining i will get back to them and using local wifi for mail.
Can anyone advise about the local wifi?

When I was in Vietnam 2 years ago the WiFi was great. Every hotel we stayed in, bar or restaurant had it. Hanoi, Hue, Hou An. Especially so in Saigon.
Even driving along there would always be 2 or 3 networks. ( not accessible while moving, they would drop off soon but be replaced by others)

I've done a little research on this myself over the last few weeks, and cant recall anyone mentioning any major problems, with registration, just buy from an approved place. Viettel seemed to be the company most recommended, but they were so cheap that people were saying just to buy both companies if you absolutely needed to make sure you were connected the whole time,I a off to Vietnam for two weeks soon and have been considering phone usage.

Viettel also seems to work in cambodia and laos if you're planning on travelling a bit, so that might be handy too.
The WiFi there is fantastic. There are sometimes issues with 3G / 4G data. I always use Viettel or Vietnamobile while I’m there - they seem the most stable (still with occasional data issues, though).
EE do a great international business roamer package that doesn’t cost a lot and gives you plenty of data. It may be worth talking to them

Bit of a resurrection, but hey ho.
One option is if you are already a Three customer, Vietnam is included in their free international roaming.
If you're not, the easy way is find a branch of "thegioididong". Yes, really. https://www.thegioididong.com/ Shops are bright yellow and there's one in almost any decent size town.
Take your passport, tell them you want a SIM and you'll be directed to a counter where there's a woman who does nothing but sell sims and topups. They'll hand you a list of options - choose the network, amount of data you want, if you want calls or just data, hand your phone over and let them install and register it for you in a few minutes. (all the carrier messages are in Vietnamese, so good luck figuring out the process yourself)
I've used both Viettel and Mobifone out there, with no coverage problems even in some very rural areas.
A 7GB data-only SIM with 30-day validity costs just over £5.
