I suspect you have not rented a villa in Tuscany before. As far as I am aware and based on my experience nearly all are in the countryside and somewhat remote so a car is essential, and the aim of finding a villa where you walk into a local village is not going to be straightforward. I'm prepared to be shot down!

Correct on all counts Sir.R.
Whilst i don't mind hiring a car to see some sights I don't want to depend on it and this was something I was aware of whilst doing the usual google searches for the Tuscany area.
You could always get a taxi transfer at the airport (presumably Pisa) to/from the villa but this may well mean that you need to get all the food and other supplies in at the same time. Good luck with getting a villa within walking distance of a village with good food shops restaurants etc!
