Still months left of this season Taff . We're thinking of wandering out tomorrow , booking , what's that all about ?
The kids Easter break doesn’t match with my available time off in Work nor does the early June so next time I’m off with them is Aug —- not many resorts I know would be open then. Plenty of other people have the same issue hence next year.
Currently 2 planned trips for 2019 season:
1. Weeks skiing with a bunch of snowboarders ..... March sometime in Sauze D'Oulx.
2. Week skiing with Family after a couple of years off at half-term somewhere in Europe/Montgenevre maybe - daughter is doing her GCSE's - so rules out Easter trip to Canada .....

Next year we are planning to be in Austria for 3 weeks and still looking for a nice destination. Here there is a comprehensive list of the resorts https://www.sport2000rent.com/en/skirental/destina... and we can't decide between Mayrhofen and Flachau. Resorts such as Kitzbuhel are not an option considering the high prices...Does anyone have some tips?

I can't help with accomadation. We spent a week in kaltenbach Jan this year. Great choice for 3 weeks skiing though. So much skiing and aside from mayrhofen easy free parking right by lifts. Make sure you get up to hintertux if weather is good.Don't really do 'resort' skiing holidays anymore and so for Feb 2019 the family are going to be staying in (and have exclusive use of) this hut at 2000m for a week in the Mount Robson Provincial Park in Canada:-
The plan is to have a week finding our powder legs and shaking down our 'fat' ski gear doing a bit of 'side-country' touring/skiing around Revelstoke. After that onto Valemount to gather together a week's worth of victuals before flying in to the hut.
For those unfamiliar with this sort of holiday, you definitely earn your turns! Although a helicopter will be flying us in to the hut, from there onwards you use your own legs 'skinning' up hill to gain altitude for untracked descents. Will be doing day tours and returning to the hut each evening.
(Above) Skinning up on ski-mountaineering gear. Like Alpine gear but with bindings that have selectable heel lift + attachments for the base of the ski.
No piste machines or chairlift. No mobile phone coverage, no wifi and definitely no people!. That's the upside. Downside is that you are your own avalanche forecasting, avalanche control and Search & Rescue service. It's going to be a bit of a busman's holiday for me.
A little taster of the scenery and skiing:-
Can't wait!

Currently looking at something a bit different from the usual half-term week in France and thinking of going to Finland in February. No real idea of what to expect but looks like there are a few small-ish resorts north of the Arctic Circle which sort of appeals. Floodlit skiing under the Northern Lights definitely sounds like an experience worth having for a start!
I imagine it's going to be pretty chilly but anybody skiied Finland before and have any tips, how to get there, do we need a car, things to do, not do...?

We’ve seen loads on online vids of this place looks epic and with younger kids you’ve got the Fact everywhere resort not just slopes are covered with snow.
It’s not busy either so nice - I don’t think it’s cheap though.
Booked La Tania for Feb.
Driving for the first time. Advice welcomed.
Driving the Discovery, do i need winter tyres or can i use normal tyres and snow chains?
Looking to cross via Tunnel on the Friday morning, should arrive in France at 10.30. If anyone can advise a great place to stay en route, giving us a nice easy drive up the mountains the next morning.
Coming home via Chalon so we can stock up!
