Sixt Lucky Dip
Discussion
Anyone done it before?
Hiring a car for a couple of days in Bulgaria next week, and for an extra twenty quid I could upgrade from a super mini to a lucky dip. So I did it. I figured that surely the cars they are likely to have kicking about are more likely to be the expensive ones ?
I have an image in my head of picking up a brand new 335d or something ... or is it more likely that I will have paid an extra 20 quid to still get a Fiat 500 ...

Just been to France.
The group F car (Insignia or equivalent, I was expecting a Renault Talisman) morphed into a Merc CLA.
So I couldnt fit the bags and the pram in the boot.

Many moons ago my Espace turned into a Zafira. After a stand off that turned into a Chrysler Voyager.
I was once “upgraded” by sixt from a BMW 1 series to an Opel Mokka! I wasn’t very impressed and argued for something else, but since I was only at a pickup point in a hotel this was the only car available there and I had no time to wait, it was actually ok but would have much preferred the BMW like I ordered since I was traveling to Germany on the autobahns.
Another time however I got a free upgrade to a brand new convertible 420d so not always bad.
I’ve used Sixt a lot here in austria and usually pretty decent, we also get discounted rates with full insurances for free via my works discounts.

Slightly off topic but I remember booking a Focus sized car for a week away in the UK with my wife and Father, so needed a 4 seater with decent boot. They couldn't understand why I refused to accept their upgrade (due to having no Focus sized cars available) of a Renault Megane convertible (the hard top one). After much arguing that I couldn't fit 2 full sized suitcases in and an adult comfortably in the back they eventually ganve me a Saab 93 estate.

Went to pick up my "Volvo V40 or similar" in Avignon a few weeks back to be told it was a Peugeot 2008. Meh thinks I - until it turns up as a Peugeot 208 on the rental agreement. The agent spotted the issue just as I did and was about to sort it out. Sadly they were very busy that day and were short of spare cars...so I had to slum it in a BMW 420d coupe as it was all they had free that was at least as big as a 2008 I booked the cheapest option possible for when we were in Malaga as the parking where we were staying was ok but street based or in a small bay. It was me and the missus with carry on. I wanted a Fox or a Lupo or a 500. Smallest I could get, as it would be the least hassle.
I arrive to be greeted with a Focus ESTATE. FFS. The one time I didn't need it.
I start to pack it and I see a family of 5 struggling to pack a Punto... So I go into the desk and see if they care if we swap. The look on their faces as I asked if they wanted "the bus" instead and could I have theirs. They were VERY happy.
It was sorted out quickly but the desk person must not have had much brains to allocate them that way.
The weird thing about the punto was if you only needed to rest a feather on the brakes it would screech to a halt. I think I was used to my Tuscan needing decent pressure but it was like braking with your left foot for the first hour!
