Got to be honest it does seem an argument over an especially first world problem smile

See. I think First is a complete waste of money

Business is a vast step up in comfort from economy but the difference between Business and First really doesn’t justify the price once you’ve got over the novelty of having a shower on board.

Every time I fly First on Emirates, I end up spending most of the flight down at the bar at the back which has a much better atmosphere than that at the front, so I may as well have saved the money / points.

OK so here's how fked up this is. I'm going to google whether I need to care what I wear for going Business laugh

Sounds nuts as I assume I'm the customer and it's 2018 so who cares, but I literally have no clue having always flown cattle.

First is an interesting one, on a factual level I'm struggling to understand at some point what paying any extra actually gets you?

Jeans and t-shirt
Shorts and t-shirt
Tracky bums and t-shirt

Just dress normally, comfortably and casually. No-one cares. If you fly Qatar business on a night flight, they’ll give you a set of PJ’s, which are pretty comfortable. Emirates First do the same and the new ones are infused with Sea Kelp to keep you moisturised. Both sets are very badly cut and come up MASSIVE, so all pax look like castaways!

Last time I went first, it was in the nose of a BA 747 going to Mauritius. It was the lack of other people, the peace and quiet and the superior seating that did it for me. That and the wine wink

That was a few years back so things may have changed in terms of difference to Business/Club.

I was flying to Brisbane last year and happened to end up in First with a certain Geordie pair on their way to jungle. We enjoyed a fair few at the front bar. Sadly, I’d got a bit too carried away on the LHR - DXB leg beforehand and drunk 2 bottles of Dom Perignon in celebration of a deal I’d won that morning so, apart from leaving all my stuff on the first flight and having to re-buy noise cancelling headphones at Dubai, I managed to oscillate between hangover and drunk pretty much the whole way. I felt bloody awful when we landed at Brisbane!!!

I wear cheap jeans, a t-shirt, and workboots. It's fine.

Jeans and a t shirt for me too. I’m not dressing up to sit on a plane.

That was my assumption, just didn't want to turn up and find there actually is some "expectation", however absurd that might sound.

None.

Those days are long gone and good riddance IMO.

You pay the fare and you dress however the heck you like, as long as you are dressed.

I don’t fully subscribe to the notion of business class being good value because you can enjoy your holiday more at the front end or arrive more refreshed for work. Business class is great but unless your holiday costs thousands a day, tick on a day or two more to recuperate or spend the 4K+ you save on a holiday that is far far better. Likewise with work, unless your time is worth 2k a day, have a recuperation day. Most of us fly business for work because the company allows it or for holidays because we are stinking rich or stupid.

For me, I don’t use business for holiday. I only use it for work. For example, I’m expecting, tomorrow, to be asked to fly to Sydney on Monday for a meeting on Wednesday and then fly back on Thursday for a dinner engagement in London on Friday night.

There’s no way I could do that without getting a decent rest and meals on the flights.

I do use it so that I feel human. It allows me to use my leave allowance more effectively. I can either add two days leave onto a trip to recover at either end, subject to leave availability or I can fly business and take an extra trip each year with the days saved. I also hate travelling in economy, it’s awful. My holiday starts when I get to the airport rather than after 24 hours of pure torture in a fart filled tube followed by a day of jet lag and/or fatigue.

I don't think jet lag is avoided by lying down and, from what I hear, people fart in business too.

Two days on either end, really? Business doesn’t fix jet lag or stop people farting either. If you are very wealthy fair enough but it’s called business class because work pays or you are rich enough to not give a monkeys about 2k per seat on a family holiday.

Of course it is. You get to sleep, you sleep at the correct time for your destination and you will find yourself easing into the new time zone smoothly.

They do but there’s far fewer of them so it’s less concentrated!
