Go to a barbers and have a proper Turkish shave.
No need, plenty of them in the UK high streets.
True. It’s probably not worth having any Turkish cuisine either, you can get that here too.

Can’t believe I forgot the most important questions of all

(I) Where’s the best place to get a doner kebab?
(Ii) Do they do garlic mayo?
(Ii) Is the Nan bread soft and fluffy or is it quite hard and chewy?
(I’V) Do they do chilli sauce?

Cheers biggrin

Don't ask for Ouzo. And if you're served Raki, don't say it's exactly the same thing. wink

Random useless information - the doner was first sold in Germany...... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24685617

We've been to Fethiye and Bodrum a few times also at October half term and loved it.

People are fantastic, fake stuff is good quality and food at resorts always very good.

AS above no need to take passports or visas with you when going out.

Weather should be good but may be windy.

It will be last week of the season for most hotels so they get pretty quiet which is why we go at this time of the year.

Last year we left the day the hotel closed.
There must have been only 20 families the last 2 days.
No problem getting served at the bars :-)

Thanks GreatGranny - good to hear about the passports.

I'm generally fine with people - but not bad mannered ones and I gather the Russians can be a bit nekulturny

Mrs C and the daughters love shopping so the fakey stuff sounds good smile

If i run out of Lira I assume I can use my Visa debit card in an ATM somewhere?

Take Euro's not Lira...they want hard foreign cash :-). Haggle in the shops. It's expected....but us Brits are useless as it :-)

Went to Belek in August (Gloria Golf Resort and Spa this time), 7th time to that area in the last 9 years.

Enjoy !

A trip to Side might be worth looking at, it’s got a few interesting historical sites, and is not too far from Belek.

I’m in Kalkan at the moment getting my teeth done. Just along the coast from Antalya.

Come here every year. Twice this year.

I generally bring GBP and exchange on the streets here. Lira rate this morning at the shops was 7.1 so dropped a bit over the last few days. I’ve actually brought a lot of lira with me this time as I took advantage of recent fluctuations and bought at 8.22 online from Asda of all places.

Wife just had teeth laser whitened but that is charged in GBP.

Leave your passport in the safe. People are fantastic as ever. Temperature is late 20s. Efes is useful in replacing food at this moment in time. Most places will close a week on Sunday.

Erdogen derives most support from the cities rather than the tourist coastal areas but still best avoiding politics.

Barter over everything, even food if you are eating at restaurants and they are begging you to come in.

Fakes - lots of different qualities so beware that the display polo shirts are better than the ones sealed in cellophane- same with watches. The three that I bought 3 yrs ago have now been resigned to the bin - looked good, worked naff.

The locals are nice but do remember you are in a Muslim country and respect that.

Thanks folks

Can anybody confirm if Vodafone works ok over there? Both my works phone and Ipad are on VF. Their website says "Yes" but I don't want to lumber my employer a bill for £000s

That won't be a problem - part of the reason we're going is because the food should all be halal. wink

To be on the safe side, switch off Data Roaming before you land. As soon as your phone picks up a signal, you should then receive a text from Vodafone TR welcoming you to Turkey and telling you what the data/call/text charges are. I recall I had unlimited for £5/day on my work phone. Same on my personal Sky phone.

To be honest, pretty much everywhere has free wifi anyway, so unless you're on a boat out at sea (that's the only time I tend to switch data roaming on), you can easily get by without.

Apologies if any offence taken, not meant.... just on our visits have seen topless sunbathing on public beaches etc and believe that can be frowned upon by some.

I am a firm believer in respecting the beliefs of the country we visit, it is after all their full time home.

Re VF, they did take turkey off the free roaming but recently reinstated it.

Thanks and no offence taken thumbup whilst we’re Muslim we completely realise that everybody is free to do what they want, subject to the laws of the land etc.

I don’t think the Turks are fundamentalists either given that it’s all-you-can-drink alcohol in the hotel biggrin

Ok - some work colleagues have asked me to bring back cigarettes.

Am I best buying them at duty free on the way out or in Turkey on the way in?

Never bought cigarettes in my life

Turkey isn't in the EU.

You can bring in one from the following:200 cigarettes / 100 cigarillos / 50 cigars / 250g tobacco

You might get away with more. At the lower end of breachers customs just seize, destroy and note your name for future.

Just tell your colleagues that your relatives have already bagged your limit.
