It's not Verona, although you're in the right part of Italy.

It also might not be as obscure as it first seems, there's a clue in the pic.

Just requoting the image, bugs the hell out of me having to keep flicking back to previous pages.

From the handrail visible, I'm wondering if this is some form of hill fort or monastery. Are we closer to Milan than Venice?

Geographically it's pretty much equidistant to both!

It's neither a fort nor monastery but it is built on a pretty steep hill.

I'll expand on the last clue: it's not as obscure as nets and hand rails, think literal rather than lateral.
