It's about an hour's drive outside of Vienna if memory serves. Can't remember the place without resorting to Google I'm afraid.

The ruins on top of the hill were where King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned and I even have some photos of them. Can’t remember the name of the village either though but it’s to the west of Vienna. Krems maybe?
You are both right, but I think neilski takes it.

It is Dürnstein, on the banks of the Danube, above the well trodden cycle path that extends more or less along the length of the river.

King Richard The Lionheart was imprisoned in the castle there 1192 – 1193.

He was set free upon payment of a ransom of 35 tons of silver...literally a king's ransom.

Over to you neilski...

That's the bugger! Would never have remembered that, it's a few years since I was there.

America, possibly New York if I remember correctly? But can't be more precise than that.

I'm pretty sure that's Santa Cruz, California - not far from my US HQ. Not been there, but was suggested as destination during a weekend stop over last year.

Thanks, is it worth going to? I'm likely back in SJ with a weekend stopover in May.

All I've quickly got to hand is this.....

Looks French rather than Italian. Is it in Italy?

I'd say so, yes. Depending on what you like doing there's mountain biking, surfing, the boardwalk / funfair etc.
