Vegas hire car choice dilemma
Discussion
Evening chaps, off to Vegas for the first time in a couple months for a big birthday. Have a slight dilemma I wondered what the worldly wise and well travelled folk of PH would do.
Basically I want to hire a Corvette. Because Vegas. Issue is, while I can find one (Z06), it's expensive for a day, would need foreign national insurance ($150), on top of the $500 odd to hire the thing, plus keeping it in the hotel valet overnight (as 9-5 isn't long enough for what we want to do so they'll be closed by the time we get back), I'll be in for the thick end of $700 and that's without taking any of the multitude of additional insurances I'll no doubt be offered.
I've also found a Camaro SS which is for the fairly reasonable sum of $150 (need to check insurances but it's one of the large international firms), and could have that for just 12 hours as they open 24/7.
So, to those who have been and/or driven either of these things, is the extra $500 worth it for the Vette over the Chevy, or should I accept they're both drop top V8s, take the Camaro and save my cash for casino tables and other frivolities?
TIA

Have you looked on https://turo.com/? I've never used it personally, but there are several Corvettes in Vegas for around £100 a day.
Another vote for Turo here. In Cali a couple of years ago I hired a Mustang convertible, for the price of a Toyota something or other from a big car hire firm. Car was perfect for the East Coast Highway, and had no problems at all with the rental. They only charged me 10 dollars for a valet after I gave it back with a week's worth of dirt (couldn't find a car wash near the airport).
And I can now say I've driven a Mustang through San Fran. Just call me Steve.

Obviously debatable, the Z06 is in a different league to the SS so I can understand the desire to go for the vette.Relative. Hmm 4 and a bit times as much to rent a corvette for the day, $650 rental charge for a ~$90k car vs $150 for a $45k car. Seems steep when you write it down.
I have a mustang gt convertable here in the UK, but hired one from LA for four weeks this summer, $1500 ! Through Amex do not need any insurance.
A couple of years ago hired a mustang out of Miami , got upgraded to a Vette convertable, had to return it,as when the sun came out, could not get the roof down with the baggage. Had a e350 merc instead.
Back to Camaero, love them, if i were you, save your money.

It might not be what OP wants to hear but in a good number of visits to Vegas, I've never hired a car even once, or felt the need to.
I guess if you want to hire a Vette then it's the place to do it but the traffic (& cops) won't let you enjoy it to it's potential.
Also, unlike e.g. Florida, you don't really *need* a hire car to get around, as the bulk of the Strip is either walkable or Uberable. I mention this as I've had some friends believe the default position in the US (outside of NY) is that you have to get a hire car, but Vegas you really don't.
Sorry to be a bit boring on a car forum

Hired the SS Camero for a 3 week roadtrip round SW USA, (vegas included).
Was great loads of straight line poke, pretty good in the corners (if you can find any) makes a great noise.
Vegas is surrounded by long straight roads though, so if you are doing a reasonable amount of driving (going to death valley for eg) you'll want a car that's reasonable comfortable sat on cruise control at 70 (there are far more highway patrols than the UK!) The Camero is ok comfort wise.
I would take the $500 saved, go to vegas speedway and do a few laps in a nascar if I were you!

I hired a Z06 in Vegas in 2018, it was pretty epic tbh.
Think it was about $500 all in plus fuel.
Took it up to the Hoover Dam and around Lake Mead national park. You certainly can use it to its full potential!
I hired mine from Beverley hills rental on Dean Martin drive, which is walkable from the strip. Was supposed to be taking a Shelby Mustang but the previous hirer had killed the clutch.

How did that work in regard to insurance? I got the impression it was a system that assumed you already had an insured car. Also did they allow out of state travel? And I can now say I've driven a Mustang through San Fran. Just call me Steve.
I wanted to hire a big V8 pickup and none of the big players were affordable. I found a mom and pop hire that was reasonable for an older vehicle but only in CA and I was planning to travel further.
Back on topic I can't see OP getting much fun from the cars he mentions without getting out of Las Vegas and onto some more rural highways and roads. Maybe drive to Death Valley?

I’ve hired pickups a few times in the US. Hertz definitely do them pretty much everywhere, they don’t appear on the standard list of cars you have to scroll down and select ‘see all’ and then ‘select for quote’ amazingly they’re generally about the price of a mid size! Maybe that’s only if you book well in advance?I wanted to hire a big V8 pickup and none of the big players were affordable. We’ve rented a GMC Sierra (small pickup, the wife’s choice) from Vegas and a Ram 1500 in Atlanta from Hertz. Both incredibly cheap. Enterprise rent F150’s, we had one from them in New Orleans, 5.0 V8 10 speed auto, loved it. I booked the F150 the day before and it was still sub $100 I think.
You could drive out to the extra terrestrial highway, there’s sod all out there but you could really stretch the legs of whatever you’ve rented as there’s nothing for miles around. Personally I think Lake Mead is a good shout, that’s a good stretch of tarmac and very quiet.
