Coronavirus concerns
Discussion
Anyone else got anything booked that may be impacted by coronavirus?
We are meant to be flying to Tokyo via Moscow on 20 March, returning 4 April. The daily headlines on the spread of the virus in Japan is somewhat concerning. Quite a few friends and colleagues are amazed we are still going! The current view is to travel until and unless Government advice tells us not to, but not sure what you chaps think ...

We are looking to book a holiday, but right now I'm not in such a rush. Especially now we have seen hotels in Europe potentially becoming new versions of the cruise ship infection hot zones in the news today!
We are meant to be staying in a luxury onsen for a couple of days in Nikko ... slightly concerned that might not be the greatest idea.I'm not having much luck. Just got back from Malaysia where the hotel turned into a hospital at the end with all staff in masks and a mandatory temperature check at reception. In 3 weeks time I'm off to La Gomera just off the coast of Tenerife. La Gomera has had a confirmed case and a Tenerife hotel is now on lockdown. Then in May, three weeks walking holiday from northern Italy to Rome.
Not changed any plans yet but monitoring the situation.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it one bit, probably make the most of shorter queues everywhere.
We've been discussing it in the office as a colleagues partner has just bottled it on a trip to Hong Kong, some very basic level googling would indicate that 75% of the cases are confined to Wuhan and 80% of the death are of old men with underlying heath issue, so unless you're a pensioner with a heart disease going to Wuhan I'd be packing my bags as long as the flight is going......but I'm not a doctor.

Shorter queues perhaps, though things across Japan appear to be starting to shut. Wouldn't be ideal if we can't do any of the things we intended to do! Still intend to travel, but who knows what might happen over the next few weeks.

Thats exactly the issue. Even with no concerns about the virus - it's the impact that is the issue not the virus itself.Still intend to travel, but who knows what might happen over the next few weeks.
We're off to Vietnam for a month which will incorporate the F1, not too sure about sitting in stands with 1000's of people is best, we will probably take precautions with masks there, but really not overly concerned.
My wife is Vietnamese and has been keeping up to speed with her family, it seems like they are coping quite well with people recovering, and it really seems to be the very old and sick where fatalities occur.

For me, it's more about how inept these holiday companies and airlines are when the st hits the fan, I also would find the prospect of being quarantined for two weeks with my 2-year-old a nightmare, so I'm very keen to avoid that possibility. I live in Sweden so we are thinking about doing a more local trip taking in Denmark, Norway and some of the other parts of Sweden I'm yet to explore, it's really easy to get away from other humans here! :-) We've been discussing it in the office as a colleagues partner has just bottled it on a trip to Hong Kong, some very basic level googling would indicate that 75% of the cases are confined to Wuhan and 80% of the death are of old men with underlying heath issue, so unless you're a pensioner with a heart disease going to Wuhan I'd be packing my bags as long as the flight is going......but I'm not a doctor.

Going to the US in June.
Lack of Chinese tourists would be a big bonus, but we might be banned by then too!
Hadn't thought about things potentially being closed..... if that happened, might end up just taking the hit and cancel it.
Fingers crossed.
+1 to all of that, we are going to Florida mid JuneLack of Chinese tourists would be a big bonus, but we might be banned by then too!
